It's easy to get caught up in the idea that a good, premium portable laptop is either made by Apple, Lenovo, Microsoft, or Asus. But Huawei has always been there and its line of 14-inch MateBooks is ever-evolving and always competitive. This is the MateBook 14 (2024), and it's a solid successor to the 2023 model - moving from a 300-nit IPS LCD to a 450-nit OLED panel, from an i7-1360P CPU to a more powerful Core 7 Ultra 155H, a bigger 70Wh battery (vs 56Wh on the last model), and slimming down to just 1.31kg. It's also the first stylus-compatible MateBook. The laptop ships with a...

Top 10 trending phones of week 20

Sony's new flagship went official this week and it wasted no time, topping our trending chart at the first chance it got. The Xperia 1 VI dropped last week's chapmion, the Samsung Galaxy A55, to second. [#InlinePriceWidget, 13003, 1#] The Poco F6 was only partially announced as Qualcomm detailed its Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, but it's already on the podium. We can reasonably expect it to climb to one of the two higher spots next week after its proper debut. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra stepped down to fourth, just ahead of the Redmi Note 13 Pro. Another Samsung-Xiaomi pair...

Deals: Pixel 8a paired with $100 gift card, but Galaxy A35, S23 FE and OnePlus 12R prices fall

So, the Google Pixel 8a costs $500, huh? Looking at the poll from last week, most people think that this is too expensive for a mid-ranger. And indeed it is, considering that the flagship Pixel 8 has been quite close to this price many times in the past. But not now, though. The Pixel 9 series is still a few months out, but the Pixel 8 is rather pricey right now and some colorways are almost out of stock. And the 8a is getting some deals. For example, Amazon is offering a $100 gift card with the purchase of a Google Pixel 8a. This can be spend on a case, a charger, headphones or...

Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 in for review

This is the Huawei MateBook X Pro for 2024 and it's easily the best laptop Huawei has ever made. The MateBook X Pro is thin-and-light with power to spare, and in this generation, it's more premium than ever. The retail box has a 90W charger, a separate USB-C cable, a USB-C to USB-A dongle, and USB-C headphones, something we haven't seen in earlier generations of the MateBook X Pro. The MateBook X Pro has always had razor-thin bezels and a premium display and in this generation, the series makes the jump from LTPS LCD to OLED. The panel is outstanding. It's a 14.2-inch 3:2 aspect...

Samsung Galaxy Watch7 passes through the FCC alongside Galaxy Watch FE

Samsung is expected to launch at least three versions of the Galaxy Watch7 at its next Unpacked event in July - the vanilla, the Classic, and the Pro. A cheaper Galaxy Watch FE may join it too, and although it may not be called that, we'll use that name for now, as it's easy to follow. A bunch of Samsung smartwatches have been listed by the FCC, with model numbers SM-L300, SM-L305, SM-L310, SM-L315, and SM-R861. L300 and L310 could be the Wi-Fi-only versions of the two sizes for the vanilla Watch7, with L305 and L315 being their respective LTE-capable iterations. That leaves the...

New 13-inch iPad Pro gets disassembled on video

Yesterday the new 13-inch iPad Pro got put through a grueling durability test involving scratches, burns, and bends, and today we have the next logical step - a teardown video. This time it's provided by the Phone Repair Guru YouTube channel, and if you've always wondered what's inside the thinnest device (not just the thinnest tablet) Apple's ever made, well, look no further. This tablet is barely thicker than its USB-C port, which is a feat of engineering in itself - though let's not forget the port may be to blame for the iPad's 'performance' in the aforementioned bend test. Then...

Samsung Galaxy A73 and Galaxy A33 are now getting One UI 6.1

Samsung started spreading the One UI 6.1 love to its mid-rangers recently, and today two more are receiving the update to the latest version of the Android skin. We're talking about the Galaxy A73 and Galaxy A33. The A73's update is currently rolling out in Malaysia as build A736BXXU7EXDC. It's a 2.6GB download and includes the April 2024 security patch level, which now seems to be a theme with the One UI 6.1 updates for Samsung mid-rangers. It's sad to not see the May security patch level since we're already well into May, but at least the rollout has started - so you win some, you lose...

TikTok wants to be YouTube now, tests 60-minute video uploads

TikTok is currently testing 60-minute video uploads, in its never ending quest to be more like YouTube. The feature is currently available to a limited group of users in "select markets", the company told TechCrunch. There are currently no immediate plans to make this available more widely, but the idea is clear here - with longer-form content, TikTok can attract some YouTube viewers on top of its usual audience who's looking for short-form videos to scroll through. At launch, TikTok had a 15-minute upload limit (much like YouTube used to back in the day), but this has steadily...

Moto G85 stops by Geekbench with Snapdragon 4 Gen 3 SoC, 8GB of RAM

The Moto G84 made its debut in August of last year (with a release the following month), but it looks like its successor could be arriving sooner. We've already spotted the Moto G85 in a European retailer's database earlier this month, with a price of €300, and now a prototype has run Geekbench, which means it's featured in the benchmark's online database. This reveals the fact that the G85 seems to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 4 Gen 3 chipset, which hasn't been officially announced yet, but will be the successor to the 4 Gen 2 from 2023. That was the first chip in the series made...

No, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra isn't dropping its 3x tele camera, says Ice Unieverse

A report from a couple of days ago claimed that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will ditch its 3x tele camera and instead rely on its 200MP main sensor for short-range zoom. Now reliable tipster Ice Universe says that it is “certain” that the next Ultra will still have four cameras. Ice specifically states that the 3x module isn’t going away. In fact, “an upgrade is very possible”. The 10MP 3x camera has been pretty much the same since it was introduced with the Galaxy S21 Ultra. There have been some variations in sensor size and the exact focal length (67 or 70mm), but nothing major. The...

Huawei Pura 70 Ultra battery life test is ready

The Huawei Pura 70 Ultra is equipped with a 5,200mAh battery, which is pretty standard for a phone of this size and class, and a Kirin 9010, which is anything but. Due to politics this otherwise flagship chip had to be fabbed on an old 7nm node, which limits its performance and efficiency. In our hands-on review we already saw a preview of what the performance is like, but we are working on a full review, so we will have more to say about that soon. As for the second thing, efficiency, we have already completed our battery tests and are ready to share the results. The Huawei Pura 70...

Sony INZONE Buds review

The Sony INZONE Buds are a pair of truly wireless earbuds unlike what we have come across in the past. Instead of being designed primarily for your phone for playing music, the INZONE Buds are designed to be used with your PC and console for gaming. The trick here is the use of a USB dongle, which must be plugged into your PC or PS5 console. The earbuds are then able to create a custom 2.4GHz wireless connection to the dongle, which greatly reduces latency compared to what you get over Bluetooth. In this review, we will be discussing audio quality while gaming and listening to...

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 to have impressive GPU performance

According to the notorious tipster on Weibo Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm's upcoming flagship SoC, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, will likely impress with exceptional graphics performance. The OnePlus 12 is the clear winner when it comes to overall power and performance, camera setup, and additional features and connectivity options.
