Standalone IGTV app officially discontinued, all video is now “Instagram Video”

Instagram has been doing a bit of housekeeping as it figures out how it should stay relevant in a world where TikTok has garnered so many users in the last few years. In its latest post, Instagram announces the changes it is making to solidify its video offerings, including the discontinuation of the standalone IGTV app. Source: Instagram As of this writing, the standalone app was last updated in August 2021 and it is still available to download from the Google Play Store. Back when IGTV first launched, Instagram’s intent to compete with YouTube in longer format video led it to...

Asus 8z (aka Zenfone 8) finally launches in India, sales start on March 7

Back in May of 2021, Asus unveiled and then released the Zenfone 8. Today, at the end of February 2022, this phone has now finally been announced for the Indian market. Why the huge delay? Who knows, we sure don't. Asus' initial blaming of the pandemic may have made sense many months ago, but hasn't in a while. But wait, there's more weirdness. In India, this handset isn't called Zenfone 8, instead it goes by Asus 8z. It's the same exact phone, though. Anyway, it's now official and if you're in India you'll be able to buy one from Flipkart. The first sale is on March 7. Only one...

Sony Xperia 1 IV renders leak

Sony's 2022 flagship Android smartphone has been portrayed in leaked renders today, showing it from all angles in all its boxy, flat-sided glory. The phone is obviously expected to be the successor to the Xperia 1 III from 2021, and it's very easily recognizable as part of the Sony stable. The design is eerily reminiscent of the Xperia 1 III, although the sides look even flatter this time around. We can see the trademark Sony camera shutter button on the lower right side, the power button with embedded fingerprint sensor in the middle, and the volume rocker above it. On the...

Poco M4 Pro in for review

Last year we thought we were getting a 4G and a 5G version of the Poco M3 Pro, but only a 5G model arrived. This year we did get a 4G version, even though it arrives months after the 5G one already launched. But the Poco M4 Pro is about more than choosing a particular network generation. For example, it is the first in the M-series to use an AMOLED display, all previous models used LCD. In fact, only Poco F phones had AMOLED until today. This change comes with higher brightness than the LCDs managed (700 nits typical vs. 450 nits, 1,000 nits peak). Note that while the refresh rate is the...

TCL 30 5G and TCL 30+ hands-on at MWC 2022

TCL unveiled its 30 series right ahead at MWC 2022, and we’re in Barcelona, where we were able to get a hold of the TCL 30 5G and the TCL 30+ - two of the more impressive devices in the affordable lineup. The two devices share the same form factor and a 50 MP camera, but the main difference is the chipset. Here are our initial impressions of the duo. TCL 30 5G This phone is developed for 5G markets, and TCL equipped it with a Dimensity 700 chipset. It is practically indistinguishable from the TCL 30+, the main differences coming in performance, thanks to the relatively more...

Poco X4 Pro 5G in for review

The just-announced Poco X4 Pro 5G has arrived at HQ, so let's talk about it. It comes in a stacked box with a case, 67W charger, USB cable, and a plastic screen protector. Interestingly it's not a spare, as the display came without a protector. The X4 Pro 5G is a successor to the X3 Pro, but it's not a straightforward upgrade, but rather a shift of focus. While aspects like the display size, refresh and resolution, or the battery capacity have remained mostly the same as the X3 Pro, the screen is now a brighter AMOLED panel. The battery charges 70% faster at 41 minutes to 100%,...

Nokia C2 2nd edition unveiled with a metal frame, Nokia Headphones tag along

HMD unveiled an even more affordable option alongside the C21 duo - the Nokia C2 2nd edition. It is a successor to the original C2, but improvements are offset by downgrades. One major upgrade is the metal chassis, so that the can be more resilient against daily knocks than the plastic C2 was. But things go downhill from here. The 5.7” display was downgraded to 480 x 960 px resolution (18:9), down from 720 x 1,440 px. And that’s not all, the 5MP selfie camera was replaced by a 2MP unit (that still has a dedicated LED flash). The 5MP camera on the rear remains...

Huawei has scheduled a new product launch event as part of MWC 2022. It is set for 27.02.2022 at 9:30 PM local time in the company's home China or 14:30 CET. The live stream is already up on YouTube, and you'll find it embedded below. Weekly poll results: the Realme 9 Pro+ may do well with a price cut, the 9 Pro doesn't have many fans

The Realme 9 Pro and Pro+ are off to a rough start – well, the regular Pro definitely is as it ended up at the bottom of last week’s poll. The Pro+ will do okay in the market, although it will really benefit from a healthy price cut. Most people looking for a phone in this price range think that there are better alternatives out there – some from Realme itself, especially higher end models that have fallen in price over time. Realme 9 Pro+ highlights That is something that the Realme 9 Pro+ will have to do, except faster - €380/₹25,000 is just too much as there are many...

Huawei VP confirms the Mate 50 will eventually be a thing

Nothing is set in stone or really officially announced at this point, but Huawei Consumer Business Group Strategy Marketing Department Vice President, Li Changzhou chimed in on a community forum recently, kind of confirming that the Huawei Mate 50 family is eventually going to exist. This is sort of a big deal not just for fans of the line, but potentially for Huawei in general and, depending on how you look at it, could even be considered a sort of "return to form" for the Chinese giant. Last year Huawei only introduced a single flagship line - the P50, which is sort of a step...

Realme GT Neo3 renders and even more specs surface once again

The Realme GT Neo3 has been frequenting the rumor mill lately and amassing an interesting set of potential specs and details through leaks. Some of these are possibly conflicting, but we'll still do our best to sum things up. A fresh new leak offers another official-looking render of the upcoming phone - front and back, which matches nicely to an earlier render, as well as TENAA's photos. The leakster also goes on to list specs, including a 6.7-inch FHD+, 120Hz OLED display - all things we've heard before while adding that the panel will offer 10-bit color, which is nice to see. Realme GT...

Apple unveiled the second-gen iPhone SE dubbed iPhone SE (2020) two years ago, and the company is rumored to return with its successor on March 8 at an event where it's also expected to announce a refreshed iPad Air. While Apple hasn't confirmed the event yet, analyst John Donovan says the new iPhone SE could start at $300. That's $99 less than the base price of the iPhone SE (2020). However, another analyst, Daniel Ives, thinks that Apple will stick with the $399 base price, but doesn't rule out a lower price. Apple iPhone SE (2020) The new iPhone SE, rumored to be called...

In a bid to build more hype, Poco has now revealed the Poco M4 Pro's design and color options. Slovakian company DEEP has successfully modified an Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max to fully function with a USB-C port. For a long time, consumers have wondered (and rumors have swirled since 2017) why Apple has yet to switch the iPhone to the USB-C standard. After all, the iPad and Mac lineups already use the universal standard. The company has prepared a video of the modification process. After prying the phone open and removing the Lightning port flex cable assembly, measurements of the USB-C connector are taken so that a housing can be installed on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. After removing...

Samsung Galaxy A03 finally makes it to India

The Samsung Galaxy A03 that was initially announced back in November has been available already in some markets, but not India. Today the Korean company has made the first step in rectifying that, by officially launching it for the Indian market. The device is already listed on Samsung's India website, and it seems like there's only one RAM/storage combination for India: 3/32GB. At least if we go by Samsung's website. However, according to FoneArena, it should also be available from retail stores in a 4/64GB configuration. Surely you are by now wondering about the price. The...

vivo NEX 5 will allegedly be called vivo X Note, specs leak

For a while now we've been hearing rumors about vivo resurrecting its NEX family of bleeding edge high-end devices, and naturally we assumed the next in line would be called NEX 5 (since BBK companies have an aversion for the number 4, and the last NEXes were the NEX 3 and NEX 3S). According to some new speculation out of China, however, it seems like the device in question won't be called NEX 5, instead going by vivo X Note. Whether that means it will have a built-in stylus, or at least stylus support, remains to be seen. The alleged model number for this device is V2170A, which has...

The lower-end model will be available in Paper White and Paper Green, while the one with upgraded...

The new build features a tablet-optimized taskbar, which takes up less space on the screen while showing only critical information. The new collapsed taskbar can be activated by swiping down on the bottom edge of the display. This shrinks down the standard taskbar and a new thinner one appears, which only shows basic information, such as the time, Wi-Fi, and battery status. You can bring up the expanded taskbar...

Honor X8 leaks, renders, specs and price in tow

A new report from WinFuture reveals Honor's plans to launch a mid-range handset for the global markets called Honor X8. The leak also suggests that the device is based on the Honor X30i, which is a smartphone launched back in November in China. However, while the X30i supports 5G, the X8 is rumored to skip that and be limited to 4G. That means it will feature a different SoC, not the Dimensity 810 chipset that's powering the X30i. The leak mentions an unnamed chipset with 4x Cortex-A73 cores running at 2.4GHz and 4x Cortex-A53 cores running at 1.9GHz. The base storage option will offer...

Also, the selfie camera is in a punch hole in the upper left corner of the screen. Unfortunately, we don’t have information on the camera details yet. Oppo Reno7 Z (photos by the NCC) • Some specs The Reno7 Z will be a 5G phone with two...

A new lawsuit has been filed against T-Mobile this week by a group of wireless dealers. Fierce Wireless has seen copies of the suits. Absolute Wireless (South Carolina), Maycom (Florida), Solutions Center (Connecticut), and Wireless Express (Tennessee) all allege that T-Mobile’s merger caused these dealers to shut down as the merger resulted in either Sprint stores converting to T-Mobile stores, or outright closed. According to Absolute Wireless and Solutions Center, T-Mobile only wanted to keep Sprint’s customers and its network, but generally didn’t want to keep Sprint’s dealers. As...

But we weren't prepared to be offered CAD-based renders this early in the development cycle. Remember, the Pixel 7 devices should only become official in October. Anyway, here's the Pixel 7 Pro in all its Pixel 6 Pro doppelganger glory: It wasn't a given that Google would stick with the current-gen design, but it has. The same general outline is there, as is the camera 'visor' at...

Samsung initially unveiled the Galaxy A03 back in November, and it's been available in limited markets since last month. Soon though, it will finally arrive in India. OnePlus is working on Nord TWS earbuds and a phone codenamed Oscar

OnePlus rumors abound today, starting with the fact that the company is apparently working on a pair of Nord-branded true wireless earbuds, to go with its line of mid-range smartphones. A few renders purportedly showing the Nord buds have been leaked, but the source says some changes may occur on the path to a finalized product, as these renders are based on live images of "final prototyping stage units". In other words, the actual shipping product will probably resemble what you see here, but just how much remains to be seen. The Nord buds seem to have a physical button with a...

TSMC takes Apple's whole 5G modem order for iPhone 14

A new report emerged from a Chinese media outlet saying that TSMC is ready to take all of Apple's 5G modem orders for its upcoming iPhone 14 series. This information contradicts an earlier report suggesting that TSMC will take only a portion of the orders. The 5G modem is rumored to be based on TSMC's 6nm node, which is a significant improvement over the Qualcomm modems used in today's iPhones. This should result in reduced power consumption. There's also an inside intel about a power management chip being developed by Apple designed to optimize the modem. Other optimizations...
