As is usually the case with OTA roll outs, it may take some time for the update to hit your device. Source 1 2 | Via

Nest Cam IQ is official with 4K sensor, facial recognition

The 4K Nest camera that was rumored earlier this month has been made official today. It's called Nest Cam IQ, and the "IQ" in the name stems from its facial recognition capabilities. This is an indoor security camera that can tell things apart from humans, but also has the ability to keep track of familiar faces, easily detecting strangers in your home. Thus, when it sends you an alert, it can tell you exactly who it saw, not just that it identified that it's a person. The camera has a 4K sensor and 130-degree field of view. As rumored, you won't get 4K footage - instead HDR is used to...

Apple's Siri speaker is already in production, official debut at WWDC in June likely

Apple doesn't usually announce new hardware at its annual WorldWide Developer Conference (WWDC) held in June, but this year things might be different. We've already heard that it will unveil a revamped MacBook lineup, a new iPad Pro, and the oft-rumored smart speaker with Siri built-in on that occasion. Today a new report says the Siri speaker has entered production, following a very long development period. The information allegedly comes from unnamed "people familiar with the matter". Once again it's revealed that an official debut at WWDC is likely, but even if it does get presented on...

We're talking about both the P10 and the P10 Plus, and the phones have gone up for pre-order at Rogers today. The Huawei P10 can be had with 32GB of storage in black and Prestige Gold, the latter hue being exclusive to Rogers in Canada. It can be yours for $0 on a two-year Premium+ Tab plan, $149 if you go for the Smart Tab plan, $499 on a Talk & Text plan, or $649 outright. The P10 Plus on the other hand is only...

Moto Z2 Play is already listed by a Brazilian retailer ahead of its unveiling tomorrow

Motorola's upcoming Moto Z2 Play has been leaking a lot lately, and a few days ago one such leak has revealed that it should become official on June 1 (tomorrow), at least in Brazil. In the meantime, Motorola's arm in Canada has teased an announcement for tomorrow too. So it's pretty much a given that the Z2 Play will finally be unveiled in a matter of hours. As usual in these cases, one retailer simply couldn't wait (or got the embargo ending wrong) and has listed the new, still-unannounced handset on its website. This time it's happened in Brazil, which makes sense since that's a big...

The company's CEO has told us what chipset it's chosen for its next flagship smartphone, some color versions have been outed, and the headphone jack may be staying. Camera sample? Check. Earlier today you were invited to choose the design for the phone's retail box. And now we get an unofficial glimpse at what could be the big unveiling date for the OnePlus 5. The leaked poster you can see in the image to the left plainly states that there's going to be a OnePlus event on June 15. The words "OnePlus 5" aren't in...

Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are now officially available in the US

Right on time, as previously announced, today is the release date for the unlocked Galaxy S8 and S8+ models in the US. We're talking about the officially sold versions of the two, keep in mind. You can find variants meant for certain international markets on eBay, for example, and those are indeed cheaper than the officially sanctioned iterations. However, if you go that route, you may be giving up proper after-sales support, and might also run into issues with things like not all of your carrier's bands being supported. If paying a little more for the peace of mind that you won't have to...

Android Pay is finally official in Canada

A lot of Google products and services aren't available in Canada as soon as they are out in the US, which for Canadians must be even more frustrating than for people in other parts of the world because of the geographical proximity of the two countries. Android Pay used to be in such a predicament, but not anymore. Today Google has finally decided to officially launch the service in Canada, following months of rumors and leaks anticipating the move. The latest of those leaks came less than 24 hours ago, in fact. You can use Android Pay at hundreds of thousands of shops across the...

Oculus says this will help introduce more people to...

Bixby Voice still isn't any good at English, US release gets pushed to late June

Remember Bixby? No, not the Google Now-esque (but don't call it that) feed of cards that sits to the left of your leftmost homescreen on the Galaxy S8 and S8+ (and is pictured below). No, not the Bixby Vision feature that looks at stuff through your camera's viewfinder and can identify the things it sees. No, we're talking about Bixby Voice. You know, Samsung's extremely overhyped virtual assistant that was supposed to (for some reason) live on the S8 and S8+ alongside the Google Assistant. What do you mean you forgot about Bixby? Samsung sure hasn't. However, it's hit a snag. Bixby Voice,...

OnePlus 3 and 3T will be updated to Android O, CEO confirms

Now that the OnePlus 5 is about to launch, you may be wondering what that means for its two predecessors from last year, the 3 and the 3T, in terms of software support. The OnePlus 3 was discontinued when the 3T became official, and the 3T itself is now living its last days of availability, at least in some markets. The Chinese company has already promised to keep supporting the two, software-wise, but up until today we didn't get anything more specific than that. It is now time to relax if you own a OnePlus 3 or 3T and care about major Android updates. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has just...

iPhone 8, 7 Plus measured up against Android flagships in this speculative render

The current trend sweeping the smartphone design field is creating "bezel-less" phones. That allows makers to give consumers what they want (big screens) without going over the limit of what they can handle (literally, what they can hold in their hand). Here's a size comparison of flagships past, present and future, compiled by @OnLeaks. Note the iPhone 8 (second from the left). It's about the size of a Google Pixel or a Huawei P10, but its screen size is unknown - the latest rumors say its screen will cover the whole front of the device. Phone size comparison (by @OnLeaks) This...

Patience pays off - after EU and Korean pre-orders, Americans are next in line to get a Sony Xperia XZ Premium. At least those with $800 to spare. You should be familiar with the specs that make the XZ Premium unique (if not, read our review), but do keep in mind that the fingerprint reader will be disabled. Also on June 12, pre-orders for the plus-sized photography buff, the Sony Xperia XA1...

Apple delivers another hint for new MacBook Pro at WWDC

Apple might have a MacBook Pro refresh on its agenda for the WWDC conference. The current Pro's shipping dates were just pushed back to the day after the keynote on June 5. That could be a strong indication that Apple will announce a refresh of the Pro line during the keynote. Don't expect any big changes, the refresh will likely just include Intel's faster Kaby Lake chips and perhaps a Pro with 32GB of RAM. The new shipping dates affect the 15-inch MacBook Pro across a few countries - the US, Germany, France and the UK. The 13-inch MacBook Pro is readily available for next day...

Android Pay's Canadian launch leaked by press, solidifies earlier rumor of May 31 launch

Today, a financial news website published a complete post of the payment service's launch in Canada, only to be taken down within the first hour it was live. When users on Reddit couldn't actually add any Canadian bank accounts to Android Pay, this is when they realized the website may have pulled the trigger a bit early. Since earlier reports alleged that Android Pay was going to launch in Canada on May 31, this occurrence only gives more credibility to those allegations. Google is akin to launching things on Wednesdays, so this could very well be the real deal. According to the post,...

Huawei P10 is unofficially available in the US for $531.99

Moto Canada confirms a new phone coming June 1

Motorola Canada has officially confirmed that it will be launching its "next bold phone" on June 1. Unfortunately, not much else was revealed. Moto/Lenovo has certainly been working hard on a handful of smartphone releases including an alleged return of the Moto X series. Guess what?! The next bold phone from Motorola is coming your way on June 1st. http://pic.twitter.com/hmdS0nY4PD— Motorola Canada (@Moto_CAN) May 30, 2017 Whether the phone to be announced will be the Moto X or Moto Z2 remains to be known. The date of June 1 lines up with another leak that claims the same day for a...

YouTube for Android officially gets bottom navigation bar

Ever since September 2016 YouTube has been testing a new UI for its Android app. This has gone through a few different iterations throughout the testing phase, and today it's finally ready to officially make it to every single user of YouTube for Android. The main new thing you'll see once the update goes live for you is a bottom navigation bar. This features clearly labeled tabs, so you no longer have to wonder what you're about to tap on. It's also visible on all pages (except when watching videos). Account and Library are now separate sections, making it simpler to find what you...

Asus outs two new Zenpad 10 tablets too

Like every year, Asus is very busy these days with Computex, because the trade show is its biggest venue for product launches. And sure enough, the company has introduced many new devices this time around too, but the focus of its announcements have been laptops, PCs, and the likes. No smartphones got official on this occasion, as for tablets so far we've only had one new model quietly being unveiled - the Zenpad 3S 8.0. Or so we thought. It turns out that the Taiwanese company couldn't help launching two additional slates, but in a similarly subdued manner. They are both new Zenpad 10...

iPhone 7 and 7 Plus cases with built-in fidget spinner now available

While the fidget spinner was invented in the 1990s, the toy has only become a full-on craze this year. Reports about its newfound popularity are everywhere, and the (perhaps controversial) claims about how it can relieve stress and help people with trouble focusing, or those who fidget a lot, have only made it even more desirable for many out there. But what to do if you left the house and forgot your trusty fidget spinner? Well, one company making smartphone cases wants to help relieve such stress-inducing thoughts. How? By attaching a fidget spinner to a case, naturally. And so, the...

Reddit adds post geotagging through Foursquare

While Twitter is a social network but wants to become your go-to messaging service, Reddit is basically the 21st century incarnation of a huge online forum - one that really seems to want to become a social network. The "front page of the internet" is adding new features left and right to help achieve that (wise?) goal. Profile pages are being revamped, for example. And now a new partnership with Foursquare has been announced. This lets users geotag their posts with a location or a venue, thus providing more (though not necessarily useful) context for everything that goes up on...

ZTE Axon 7 mini can be yours for just $169.98 until Thursday

ZTE released the Axon 7 mini in the US last October, priced at $299.98 unlocked. A few months later we spotted it being sold for $100 less, making it an even better deal. Now though Newegg has an offer you simply can't refuse if you're in the market for an Axon 7 mini (or just a decent performer under $200). For a limited time only (until this coming Thursday ends, that is), the retailer will sell you an Axon 7 mini for just $169.98. That's a whopping $130 off the handset's initial price, and still $30 less than the best price we've seen for it so far. All you need to do is go to...

Twitter starts filtering DMs from people you don't follow

For a very long time Twitter's been trying to make its Direct Messages (DM) functionality into a person-to-person messaging system that people will actually use on a daily basis. You know, like Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp. Given that it hasn't yet shared usage numbers just for this feature, we assume it hasn't succeeded yet. That, however, isn't stopping it from adding ever more improvements to the DM system. Case in point: today, the company announced a change in how some DMs are handled. If you have opted in to get DMs from anyone (and not just people you follow, which is the...

Microsoft is reportedly testing a new phone running a new branch of Windows Mobile

You may be wondering what happened to Microsoft's ambitions in the mobile space. The company has been creating a lot of hardware lately, but it's focused on its Surface-branded line of devices running 'full' Windows. A new Windows Mobile handset hasn't been in the rumors for quite some time now. That changes today, because a new unconfirmed report now claims that Microsoft is testing just such a device. The revelation apparently comes from two different sources inside the company, so it may be accurate. The bad news? The phone is said to be running a "different" branch of Windows...

Intel says its upcoming 8th generation Core processors will have 30% better performance

The insane 18-core i9 processors in the new Core X series are not everything that Intel has revealed today. The company has also outed an important detail about its upcoming 8th generation Core CPUs for the mainstream. These will become available in the second half of this year, as successors to the currently selling 7th generation Core SKUs. Intel says the next generation chips will perform up to 30% better than the ones out today, at least in some circumstances and for some use cases. The company has seen such a boost in SYSmark 2014 version 1.5, and the quoted improvement applies...

Samsung intros Notebook 9 Pro with built-in S Pen

Today at Computex in Taiwan, Samsung took the wraps off its latest laptop. It's called Notebook 9 Pro, it has a 360-degree hinge that makes it a convertible, and it comes with Samsung's S Pen stylus built-in. The stylus slides into the base of the Notebook 9 Pro, so there isn't a big chance you'll lose it fast (which is what would probably have happened had it not featured its own storage slot). The S Pen has 4,000 levels of pressure and it's able to detect tilt for shading, like Microsoft's new Surface Pen. Samsung's Air Command software for drawing, taking notes, and editing documents is...

On the back, a 13 MP camera with 80-degree wide-angle lens is...

First look at LG V30 shows Full Vision display, new color

The LG V30 is the latest phone to fall victim to a leak from China. A total of three shots show what appears to be LG's next phablet flaunting a near-bezzeless Full Vision display and a glossy, mirror finish. The device looks just like the LG G6 with a dual camera and fingerprint reader placed on the back. On the opposite side there appears to be a single speaker grille, USB type-C port and 3.5mm audio jack on the bottom. More interestingly the top has a row of icons and possibly a front-facing camera in between, meaning that LG means to retain the top-placed "secondary...

While Lenovo is expected to announce details about the next Moto Z devices, leaks are revealing them bit by bit. Latest renders show the Moto Z2, Moto Z2 Play and the Moto E4 from a bunch of different angles. All three phones are lying on their back in the photos, hiding any details about the camera setup. Moto Z2 The Moto Z2 will come with a dual-LED front facing flash, according to the images. The camera module is still circular for the MotoMods to fit, and there is an USB-C port on the bottom. Essential Home is the newest home assistant that wants to dim your lights

Along with the Essential Phone, Andy Rubin's new company also announced the Essential Home, a home assistant along the lines of Amazon Echo and Google Home. Except this one has a display on it. The Essential Home is a round hockey puck like device with an angled top that houses a circular display. Like other home assistants, the Essential Home will let you give commands and ask questions using your voice. You can ask it to play music and because it has a speaker it will play on the device itself. You can ask it to set a timer or remind you of something. The usual stuff. Crucially,...

Andy Rubin's Essential phone unveiled with unique edge-to-edge screen

Andy Rubin, co-founder of Danger and Android, has a new company - Essential. Today, it introduced the PH-1, though we have a feeling most people will call it just the "Essential phone." It has a unique screen and a unique camera setup, it also flaunts a bit of modularity. The screen is an edge-to-edge "Full Display" with rounded corners, not unsimilar to the Xiaomi Mi Mix. But look at the selfie camera - it cuts into the middle of the notification area! The screen has a 19:10 aspect ratio - wider than 16:9, but not as wide as the LG G6 or Galaxy S8. It is an LTPS LCD measuring 5.71" in...
