Verizon has started rolling out the Marshmallow update to Samsung's 8-inch Galaxy Tab E units on its network. The update bumps the software version to T377VVRU1BPD6 and brings Android version 6.0.1. Aside from the usual Marshmallow goodies, such as Doze, Google Now on Tap, and redesigned app permissions, the update also includes the Android security patch for the month of June. As is usually the case with OTA roll-outs, it may take some time for the update to hit your device. Meanwhile, if you feel impatient, you can manually check for the update by heading to your tablet's Settings...

HTC reiterates that One A9, One M9, and 10 will get Android Nougat update, but still doesn't say when

If you recall, back in May this year, HTC confirmed that its One A9, One M9 and 10 smartphones will receive the Android N update. Now, shortly after Google revealed that Android N is Android Nougat, the Taiwanese company has reiterated the same information. So sweet. Android Nougat—the next version of Google's Android—will be coming to the HTC 10, HTC One A9 & HTC One M9. http://pic.twitter.com/cB5S2zv0PW— HTC (@htc) June 30, 2016 There was, however, still no confirmation on exactly when the update will begin rolling out and which other HTC devices will be receiving it, although the company...

Spotify calls Apple "anticompetitive" upon denial of Spotify's new iOS update

Spotify is enraged at the way that that Apple's App Store approval process is being exploited to put down other competitors that are directly a threat to Apple's own music streaming service: Apple Music. Apple recently denied a request from Spotify to update its iOS app, which is what's currently causing conflict. Here the problem lies in the way Apple requires subscription based services to use iTunes billing in order to sell service to app Store users. What's unfair is while Apple doesn't require that Apps use the iTunes billing system at all, it doesn't allow apps to use any other...

Dell has revealed that it's discontinuing its Android-powered Venue tablet line-up. Not only this, Dell will also not be offering any more OS upgrades to the already-sold Venue tablet units, although the company says it will continue supporting currently active warranty and service contracts until they expire. Given the fact that many other Android-powered devices were discontinued by...

This means you'll soon be able to buy it for much cheaper than it was originally released. Even today, the 32GB Nexus 6P can be purchased as a refurbished unit for just $350 from Best Buy's eBay listings. The phone doesn't show it anywhere. The listing is for a matte gold colored unit. Meizu MX6 renders surface online

Meizu is definitely having a strong year with promising new offers like the This is actually not the first time we have heard of the device. However, it is probably the first occasion on which we get to catch a glimpse of official renders. Now, it is worth noting that said pictures are actually of the Ubuntu Edition of the device, but as the Linux-powered MX4 and PRO 5 before it have already shown, both editions should be identical in terms of hardware. That being said, we can safely assume that both will have the slick metal design that appears in the renders, complete...

Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update lands on August 2 too

Yesterday Microsoft officially announced the release date for the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. It's August 2, yet the company's blog post back then only talked about Windows 10 for PCs. And it's stayed mum on any launch details for the same update on mobile devices. Now though Dona Sarkar, the head of Microsoft's Windows Insider program, has confirmed that the Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update will be out on August 2 too. The confirmation came via a Twitter reply to a concerned individual asking about the mobile release of the latest Windows 10 update. This doesn't mean that every...

Galaxy Note7 will have an iris scanner, leaked front panel shows

Will it or won't it? Specifically, will the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note7 sport the much-rumored iris scanner, or won't it? Well, if the front panel that has been leaked today indeed belongs to the new Note device, then this dilemma is finally settled. Spoiler alert: yes, it will have an iris scanner. Take a look at the images below. The first one reportedly shows us the Note7's front panel, and above the display you can see three big cutouts that have not been there in previous Samsung handsets. In fact, the image below compares the alleged Note7 front panel with the one from the...

5.5-inch HTC Nexus phone codenamed Marlin has its specs leaked

Exactly one week ago specs leaked for one of the two upcoming Nexus smartphones that this year are both being made by HTC. That one is reportedly codenamed Sailfish, and it will be the successor to the LG Nexus 5X from 2015. And today the spec list for the other HTC-made Nexus has been outed by the same source (which rates it a 9 out of 10 in terms of confidence). This one is a bigger, 5.5-inch handset, and it's codenamed Marlin. It will have a QHD touchscreen, a 12 MP rear camera, an 8 MP front-facing shooter, a quad-core Qualcomm processor, 4GB of RAM, 32 or 128GB of storage, and a...

Samsung Gear VR owners will be able to watch the Olympics in VR

For the first time ever, coverage of this year's Olympics will be available in VR. Just one (huge) caveat: you need to own Samsung's Gear VR and a compatible smartphone. If you do, then you're all set to dive into around 85 hours of programming which will be available in VR. This will be made available by NBC in the United States, "on delay during the games". If you're wondering exactly what you'll be able to watch, well, here's what's included in the VR broadcasts: the opening and closing ceremonies, men's basketball, gymnastics, track-and-field events, beach volleyball, boxing, diving,...

Sharp loves to launch mini phones with stunningly thin bezels, but they rarely leave Japan. The new Sharp Aquos Mini has a 4.7" screen framed in just 126 x 66 x 9mm of phone. It's lightweight too, 120g, despite its solid IPX68 waterproofing. The screen is a 4.7" IGZO unit of 1080p resolution. It's driven at double speed - 120Hz - for smoother animation and reduced blur from residual images. The screen can go the other way too and refresh at 1Hz when the phone is idling to preserve power. The Mini has a unique notification system called Emopa, it has lights in the bottom corners of...

Android N is Android Nougat, Google reveals

After months and months of speculation and a public call for ideas or two, today Google has finally revealed the official dessert name for the next iteration of its mobile operating system. Android N will thus be known as Android Nougat from this point on. Unfortunately it's still unclear what version number Nougat will get. Its predecessor, Marshmallow, is Android 6.0. So it's likely that Nougat will be 6.1 or 7.0, but that's probably a reveal for another time. Google has also unveiled the Android Nougat statue, on the lawn of its headquarters in Mountain View, California -...

Vivo X7 and X7 Plus are now official: Snapdragon 652 and 4GB RAM, but Lollipop

Starting with the common hardware, both flavors of the X7 are powered by the same Snapdragon 652 chipset (our favorite Qualcomm 600 series SoC, if there is one), there are 4GB of RAM on board and internal storage is roomy at 64GB. The smaller vivo X7 comes with a 5.2-inch display, while the X7 Plus is the phablet of the pair, with a 5.7-inch diagonal. Both are FullHD Super AMOLEDs. Vivo X7 in...

ZTE unveiled the Nubia Z11 a couple of days ago, and registrations for the device were opened shortly after that. Now, the Chinese company has revealed that over a million people have already registered for the phone's first sale - in fact, the one million milestone was reached in less than 24 hours. While that's no doubt impressive, keep in mind that the figure only represents those who have registered for the sale, and not actually pre-ordered the handset, meaning no money has changed hands yet. Registrations are open until July 5, and the sale is scheduled for July 6. You'll be...

A thin, slick, all metal body is definitely among the top draws of the OnePlus 3 . What could possibly make the elegant exterior even more exciting? Well, more colors, of course. Currently, the device can only be picked up in Graphite - a solid, very traditional and elegant choice. But, if you are after something a bit more flashy, OnePlus has also promised a Soft Gold option will be coming soon. Yesterday, there was also word of an even more extravagant color version in the works - a red one. Renders looked convincing enough and a brief listing on the OnePlus website also provided...

OnePlus 3 might get a price hike in UK

OnePlus has announced that its latest flagship - the OnePlus 3 - could get a price hike in the UK. The Chinese company says this is due to "the worrying downward trend of the GBP," that followed the country's vote to leave the EU. "Our margins have always been thin, and our expenses are mainly in USD. This being the case, sudden drops such as the one that the Pound has recently experienced could have a direct impact on our prices," OnePlus said in a post on its official forums. "If you're thinking of buying, we recommend doing so sooner rather than later," the company added. A...

Samsung Galaxy S7 Active: The Olympic performer

We're already used to seeing Samsung release an 'Active' version of its current Galaxy S flagship. The Samsung Galaxy S7 active is the latest in the series and it has been released exclusively to AT&T as it's also become customary. If history should serve as any reference, the model would likely not see availability outside the stable of this particular US carrier.

Facebook's News Feed will soon show you stuff from your friends and family first

Facebook has announced that it's tweaking its News Feed yet again, following user feedback. Soon, after the change is implemented, you're supposedly going to see what your friends and family post first. Stuff from "friends you care about" will be higher up in your News Feed than before, all in a move meant to ensure you don't miss any important things shared by the people you actually know in real life. The social network has also revealed how it prioritizes stuff in the News Feed. Aside from always showing you things from your closest friends (and family members), it has found that people...

Google Maps now takes you from point A to point B to point C with support for multiple destinations

No, from this point on (or whenever the new functionality reaches you), you are able to add multiple destinations in Google Maps while you plan a trip. And then when you start navigating, after you've reached the...

Yesterday Microsoft published, then pulled a blog post title saying the Windows 10 Anniversary Update would be released on August 2. Today the company has thankfully decided to publish it again, and this time has not pulled it immediately afterwards. What's more, the blog post even has content now. And from that we find out that Windows 10 is already installed on some 350 million devices worldwide, which is very respectable for a desktop operating system. Microsoft is also boasting that customer satisfaction higher with Windows 10 than for any previous version. The Windows 10...

It's called Force Gold and you can see it below on the Le Max 2, which has so far been sold only in rose gold, silver, and grey. Force Gold will be offered for the Le 2 and Le 2 Pro too. Additionally, LeEco has outed a new top of the line version of the Le Max 2. This one comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage, in order to...

Sony finally releases PlayStation Vue app for Android

Today Sony has finally launched its PlayStation Vue app for Android. This was originally announced last week when Vue made its way to Roku boxes. And it's way overdue, seeing as how the iOS Vue app has been out for ages. So it's late, but it's here. PlayStation Vue is a service that lets you watch live TV, movies, and sports without a cable or satellite subscription. You do have to pay for Vue itself, though, after an initial seven-day free trial period. That said, if you haven't used it before do note that you can't create a new account in the Android app - you'll have to use the...

Less then 24 hours ago a new rumor claimed to shed some light on certain details regarding Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note7 - namely that it will be outed on August 2 (something we've heard before), and that it will sport a 3,600 mAh battery. But what about its screen? So far we've had a lot of reports saying that Samsung opted to go with a dual-edge display for the Note7. Then again, there were some other mumblings telling us that wouldn't be the case. So what to believe? Samsung Galaxy Note7 cases by Olixar Well, if the renders showing these newly outed cases for the phone...

Amazon has started offering slashed prices on selected unlocked phones with ads

If you have ever shopped around for a Kindle in the US or UK, then you are surely in the know about Amazon's special offers deals. It is quite simple really - you get the device at a reduced price and in return, Amazon gets to put some advertisements on it. Overall it is quite a good deal, as the online giant does really try to make said adds quite relevant and not that intrusive. Now, in a new move, Amazon is attempting to expand the special offers program on to SIM-free mobile devices, which it sells quite a bit of as it is. The program has already launched within the US with...

SanDisk unveils 256GB microSD cards in Ultra and Extreme forms

SanDisk used to be the first to open up new microSD storage capacities, but clearing the 256GB barrier took them a while. Now the 256GB microSDXC UHS-I cards are reality and coming soon. The SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I, Premium edition is the longest way I've heard yet of saying "the base model." To clear up the confusion, I'll call this one the SanDisk Ultra and the high-end model SanDisk Extreme. So, the SanDisk Ultra 256GB microSD is coming out in August for $150 and offers transfer speeds of up to 95MB/s (this typically refers to read speeds, writes are slower). SanDisk...

LG Innotek unveils a flexible pressure sensor

LG Innotek has developed a flexible textile pressure sensor. The sensor has many applications - from sports equipment to healthcare. The new sensor is highly durable. It can work from -40° to 80°, and can withstand 100,000 cycles of people sitting on it. Unlike previous flexible pressure sensitive solutions, this one makes more uniform measurements and does not irritate the skin like the old PET-based sensors (which weren't all that bendy either). The sports wearables market is exploding and there are several companies offering smart shirts. This could also be fashioned into gloves, so...

The Turing phone is apparently still alive

It really seems like everybody and their aunt is "kickstarting" various ideas this day of age, regardless of experience or even viability of said concepts. Thus, it is unsurprising that so many project fail even before they get off the ground. But while it is hard to feel sorry for the latest smart toaster/cooler combo with Android, there are some other really ambitious projects, especially in the mobile realm, that many users generally want to see become a reality. The Turing Phone definitely falls under the latter category. It started off as an ambitious effort towards creating a...

The app is currently listed on the...

Twitter adds Night mode to Android app

After years of people asking for it, Twitter has finally added a Night mode option in its app. The option has currently only been spotted in the Android version, with iOS availability not yet known. The option appears as a server side update provided you have one of the recent updates installed with the new Material Design UI. The switch gives the app a slick dark blue appearance, which is far easier on the eyes and also on the battery if you have an AMOLED display. There is no way to automate the day-night switch for now but that seems to be asking too much from Twitter. I...

Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 820 and all future 600 and 800 series SoCs will be Tango-capable

Google's project Tango is among the company's most ambitious tech endeavors of late. And with the first Tango end user device, the Lenovo Phab2 Pro, already a reality, Google and its hardware partner - Qualcomm are naturally planning for the future. As you might recall, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 is the chip that powers the Lenovo smartphone and is thus the company's first Tango-capable chipset on the market. But, as you can imagine, the mobile hardware giant won't stop there. Today, it announced that all future Snapdragon 600 and 800 series chips will also have Tango...

Huawei Mate 9 won't be unveiled at company's September event

While we were expecting to see the Mate 8 successor at Huawei's September 1 event, looks like that won't be the case. According to Bruce Lee, a mobile product line manager at the Chinese company, the Mate 9 won't be made official so early - that's in context with the fact that the Mate 8 arrived towards the end of last year. In case you missed, the Mate 9 has already been subject of some rumors, with a recent one suggesting that it will be powered by the homegrown, and yet-to-be-announced Kirin 960 chipset with octa-core CPU, and sport a 20MP dual rear camera setup. So, assuming...

LG VPInput app lets you control an LG G4, G5 or V10 from a PC

Technologies like Microsoft's Continuum, Canonical's Convergence or even the recently announced Xbox Play Anywhere might not be enjoying overwhelming popularity in their current states, but they all represent a very active push towards a simpler device and platform-agnostic future tech sphere. LG has apparently caught the innovation spirit too, as evident by the new VPInput app, which it just announced. The software allows users to control an LG G4, G5 of V10 phone from a PC, via Bluetooth. This includes forwarding input from a mouse and keyboard, including keyboard custom shortcut...
