Pixel 4a removed from Google Store

After being out of stock on the Google Store for several weeks, the Google Pixel 4a is officially no longer listed on the Google Store as reported by 9to5Google The Google Pixel 4a was released back in August of 2020 after being delayed for several months – it was originally expected to arrive sometime in April or May of that same year. The Pixel 4a only had 4G connectivity and a smaller 5.8-inch display and its midrange Snapdragon 730G chipset gave it great battery life. The $350 Pixel was an amazing value for its time. The Pixel 4a was the last Google Pixel to be released to more...

Motorola Edge 30 Pro rumored to launch in India and internationally in February

Back in early December Motorola took the wraps off the Edge X30 flagship for the Chinese market, launching it as the first phone to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. In the meantime, it has been rumored to make the jump to global markets (including India) under a different name: Motorola Edge 30 Pro. Now a new rumor from a usually reliable tipster claims the device will be announced for India and other international markets at some point in February. Interestingly - or rather, weirdly - enough, it could have a different name in India. So it would go as Edge X30 in China, Edge 30 Pro in...

CR: 2021 was the most competitive year for smartphone sales in Europe

Counterpoint Research has issued its annual analysis of the European smartphone market today, and this reveals sales were up 8% over 2020. That's encouraging, but it's still not back to pre-pandemic levels (keep in mind that 2020 sales dropped 14% compared to 2019). On the other hand, last year was by far the most competitive ever in the European smartphone space, with the No.1 company changing four times throughout. In the last quarter of the year, Samsung narrowly beat out Apple by 1% - the two scored 33% and 32%, respectively. They were followed by Xiaomi with 15% (down from 17%...

The mother of all leaks revealed that the Galaxy S22+ and S22 Ultra will support 45W fast charging. There was some hope that the vanilla Galaxy S22, but that hope has been dashed by Nieuwe Mobiel. The S21+ will be able to use a 45W charger and will be able to top up its 4,500 mAh battery in 60 minutes. Our tests of the S21 showed that it needs 73 minutes for...

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 versions will still be distributed in the US, China and India. As for Netflix' list of supported devices and chipsets, it's a list that shows HD and HDR video...

ANYCUBIC Vyper 3D printer review

Introduction While not directly related to what I do here at GSMArena, 3D printing is a huge passion of mine. Having recently done an in-depth review on the CREALITY HALOT-ONE resin 3D printer, I recently got a chance to play with the ANYCUBIC Vyper and can now share what its real life performance is like. I have been doing Fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printing for over a year and have owned a total of three 3D printers - my current Monoprice Select Mini V2, which is the only one I could reasonably keep with the limited home space I have and before that Prusa i3, which...

Top 10 trending phones of week 4

A few events had major impact on our trending chart this week, but above all it was the Redmi Note 11 series' global debut. The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G has finally dethroned the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, which has occupied the top since the start of the year. We've also got the Redmi Note 11 Pro in fourth and the Redmi Note 11 in fifth. The other major development was the massive Galaxy S22 series leak that propelled interest in the Galaxy S22 Ultra to new heights and the second place in our chart. The Galaxy S21 FE is down to third. The OnePlus 10 Pro is down to sixth, followed by the...

Huawei Watch GT Runner in for review

The Huawei Watch GT 3 is one of the best smartwatches on the market, and the company recently announced a new version called Watch GT Runner. The new device has a lot of similarities with the GT 3, but there are also some differences that need testing. The Huawei Watch GT Runner feels quite light, and has a bit sportier design with the cool stripes on the rubber strap. Another major change is the antenna design - it claims improved communication with the L1 and L5 satellites. The looks might be different, but the core functionality is largely unchanged. The Watch GT Runner is...

Weekly poll: which one of the new Redmi Note 11 models is your favorite?

The new Redmi Note 11 series was unveiled earlier this week and it already went through a limited sale (an early bird deal with $20-30 worth of discounts). Did you get one? Will you get one once the phones become widely available and which one? That’s what we want to know this week. The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G fills a 5G-shaped hole in the Note series. There was a Note 10 5G last year, but that was more of a mid-range offering and not a Pro. Anyway, the Note 11 Pro 5G is mostly identical to its 4G-only sibling with the key difference being the Snapdragon 695 chipset. Redmi Note 11 Pro...

Our vivo V23 5G video review is up

The selfie-centric vivo's V23 series is out, and we already have reviews of both the vanilla and the Pro version. But the focus of our latest video review is on the vivo V23 5G - a slick midranger with innovative glass Fluorite AG Glass that changes colors. Despite the notch on the front, the handset features a trendy design. It also packs some pretty balanced hardware with excellent battery life and 44W fast charging. The solid 50MP selfie camera coupled with a secondary ultra-wide and 2 front-facing LED lights is another standout feature that puts the V23 ahead of the...

OnePlus Nord 2T and Nord 2 CE Indian prices revealed

A couple of days ago, some OnePlus Nord 2T specs leaked in the wild and now we have an expected price range for all of the handset's memory configurations along with a supposed release time frame. The same source tries to guess the rumored Nord 2 CE's price as well. Starting with the Nord 2T, which should replace the current Nord 2, 91mobiles believes that the device will be priced between INR 30,000 and INR 40,000. This range probably covers all configurations. In Euros, it's between €360 and €480. However, we believe that the European prices will be a tad higher due to import taxes. The...

Weekly poll results: 5G still far from universal adoption

5G phones are now widely available, but the same can’t be said of 5G networks. Last week’s poll shows that the greatest barrier to adoption is that some countries still haven’t launched their 5G networks. The second most common issue is that many users don’t have a 5G-capable phone yet (about a quarter of voters). Not really surprising, if they don’t live in an area with 5G coverage. Of course, that hasn’t stopped makers from selling 5G phones in those regions – they frame it as future-proofing. And they do put in the work, e.g. Airtel in India was using phones from Apple, Realme,...

Flashback: the Moto G was one of the best $200 smartphones you could buy in 2013

The sub-$200 smartphone market in 2013 was pretty barren, buyers on a budget had only a few good options to choose from. Thankfully, “good” is underselling them – there were some excellent cheap phones from that period. Motorola Moto G The Motorola Moto G comes to mind. It launched at $180 and reviewers and users alike sang its praises. It made for a good second in command to the highly customizable Moto X and we still remember it fondly today. But how much of that was true excellence and how much is it rose-tinted glasses? Moto G next to its flagship sibling, the Moto...

LDI, which stands for Laser Direct Imaging, is used to...

iOS 15.4 beta adds support for 120Hz refresh rate in all apps

Apple's latest iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max flaunt 120Hz ProMotion displays, but only a handful of apps support 120 frames per second. Mostly system apps at that. Well, with the upcoming iOS 15.4 software, Apple is finally adding support for all apps to make use of the buttery-smooth experience. It's worth noting that the iOS 15.4 is currently in beta. For now, iOS 15.4 is still in beta and the information comes from a developer saying that he got the news from "someone at Apple". He posted a screenshot as proof. Yay, got a little message from someone at Apple today that this is fixed in...

Counterpoint: US smartphone market remains flat in Q4 2021

Counterpoint research published its US market analysis for Q4 last year and for the most part, it has remained steady with a modest 2% growth. Analysts cite supply constraints, delayed launches and in-store restrictions are the main reasons. On the other hand, strong carrier promotions were able to counteract the negative impact of the aforementioned issues. Of course, Apple remained on top of the market with 57% share in the quarter with 17% growth compared to Q3, mainly due to strong iPhone 13 sales. The Pro versions performed particularly well. Samsung sits comfortably in second place...

It's also worth noting that Lenovo hasn't shared any release notes of Android 12L for the Tab P12 Pro at the time of writing this, and the software limitations listed on its website remain unchanged from the...

The FAA reaches agreement with Verizon and AT&T to safely deploy C-band 5G near airports

This month, there’s been ongoing discussions between US carriers Verizon and AT&T, US Airlines, and the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) regarding the deployment of C-band 5G towers in areas near key airports. The concern lies with the potential for the C-band 5G towers being deployed by US carriers Verizon and AT&T and the Airport’s low-visibility equipment, specifically with interference of an altimeter devices. The latest development is that the US carriers and FAA have reached an agreement on which steps need to be taken to ensure safety of key airports while also deploying more...

During Apple’s latest financial earnings call, Apple revealed that it had gained 165 million subscribers in the last year. Subscribers are counted across all consumer services that Apple offers including iCloud, Music, Arcade, and Apple TV+. Apple CFO and Senior VP Luca Maestri says the growth was worldwide. So, we’ve done… better than we were expecting at the beginning of the quarter.” – Luca Maestri,...

Samsung travels to the future again, releases February update for the Galaxy Note20

Samsung has, for a while now, enjoyed releasing its monthly security patches for some devices before the month in question's even started. It's not always the same handsets or even series, so it all seems pretty random, but almost every month there's at least one phone or family to be blessed with next month's security updates... today. And yes, today is one of those days. Even though we're still in January and February is a few days away, the Korean company couldn't wait anymore and unleashed its February update for the Galaxy Note20 and Note20 Ultra. For now, this only seems to be...

Apple releases iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4 public beta

Earlier this week, Apple sent out iOS 15.3 and iPadOS 15.3 to supported mobile devices, and you know what that means, right? Time for a new beta - the development cycle never stops. The company released iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4 for developers only yesterday, and today these builds are available for people who are part of Apple's beta program. This upcoming version of Apple's mobile software finally enables Face ID when you have a mask on (and it only took two years!). Additionally, there's some new functionality for wearers of glasses, although it requires you setting it up with each pair...

Face ID works with a mask on iOS 15.4 Beta, no Apple Watch required – Face ID with glasses improved

Ever since the pandemic began, one of the biggest pain points of using an iPhone became not being able to unlock with Face ID due the all the mask-wearing that we’re doing. Apple eventually made Face ID “compatible” with wearing a mask, but the limitation was that an Apple Watch needed to be authenticated and connected so that a partial face match was possible. One of the newest features recently discovered by Brandon Butch on the latest iOS 15.4 beta is the ability to use partial Face ID that would be useful when wearing a mask, except it no longer requires you to have an Apple Watch...

Facebook Messenger adds some essential features to its end-to-end encrypted chats

Meta's Facebook Messenger is gaining some new features today for its end-to-end encrypted chats, although these are still entirely optional and opt-in, unlike WhatsApp, also owned by Meta, where the end-to-end encryption is the default. That's an important distinction to keep in mind - in Messenger, you need to specifically go to the menu and open a special end-to-end encrypted chat if you want to. If you are the type of person to do that, you'll be happy to know that from now on you aren't restricted to one-on-one chats anymore - end-to-end encrypted group chats and calls (both voice and...

Blizzard announces a new survival game, commits to CoD for PlayStation

Through its official Twitter account, Blizzard announced a new online survival game but it seems like it's early in its development stage because the announcement serves more as a job listing. And it kind of makes sense given Blizzard's recent legal issues and its ongoing attemp to overhaul its working environment. The description on the company's website says that the new game will be available for PC and consoles, although it did not explicitly mention which consoles will get it. With Microsoft's ongoing Blizzard acquistion, nothing should be considered certain. We’re building a...

Lenovo published a quick teaser video, showcasing the upcoming Legion Y90's dual-fan cooling. We get a glimpse of the rear of the phone and a preview of the dual fans at work. Lenovo claims they combine to deliver 180.65cm³/s of airflow. It sounds cool, but without context, it's just a random number. We guess having two physical fans can't hurt cooling, though. The Lenovo Legio Y90 is expected later this month with a 6.92-inch E4 AMOLED of 144Hz refresh rate and up to 720Hz touch sampling rate. The gaming phone will run a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with a rumored up-to 18GB of RAM....

The new PUBG: New State is heavily featured in the video (which doesn't officially support ray tracing as far as we can tell, maybe it's waiting for the right chipset). The GPU will also support Variable Rate Shading (VRS), which will help it keep the frame rate stable. The lawsuit is expected to be filed in Texas, Washington, Indiana, and District of Colombia and alleges that Google uses “dark patterns” – referring to tactics that could subtly influence a consumer’s behavior in a business’ favor using...

Apple's planned rules for third-party payments don't go far enough, says Dutch regulator

Last year the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) ordered Apple to allow developers of dating apps to use third-party payment services (for apps in the Dutch App Store). Apple announced plans to do so, but the authority isn’t happy with Cupertino. First, because Apple still hasn’t implemented the required changes. The second and more important issue is that even when implemented, the changes would not go far enough to satisfy ACM’s demands. Apple’s planned changes include several hoops that developers have to jump through. The worst of them is that developers have to...
