Instagram for iOS finally lets you pinch to zoom on photos and videos

This is one of those things that we can't believe are only now being added to an app. See, Instagram is all about pictures and videos, and pinching to zoom on images and videos is basically second nature on a device with a touchscreen. Yet only today has Instagram added that capability - and for now it's only available in its app for iOS. Android support is supposedly coming in the next few weeks. Until then, Instagram users rocking an iPhone or iPad are once again getting to play with a new feature first. To get an idea of how pinching to zoom works in Instagram, have a look at the quick...

Unlocked Moto Z and Moto Z Play will be out in the US in October

So far the Moto Z and Moto Z Force have both been exclusive to Verizon in the US, but back when they were first announced we were promised an unlocked version of the former would hit the States at some point. And now we know when to expect that. It turns out that both the Moto Z and the just-announced Moto Z Play will be available in unlocked form in the US in October. Pre-orders for this version of the Moto Z will start on September 15. The unlocked Moto Z will be sold directly by Motorola for $699.99 and it will not work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon and Sprint. The unlocked Moto...

Hasselblad True Zoom MotoMod announced with 10x optical zoom and Xenon flash

The much-rumored Hasselblad MotoMod is now official and it's called True Zoom. Like all MotoMods, this is an accessory that snaps onto a Moto Z, Moto Z Force, or Moto Z Play handset through magnets. There's a dedicated shutter button too, and the design of the Mod will make your Moto phone look like a standalone digital camera - at least from the back. RAW image capture is supported, and...

Moto Z Play is official with 3,510 mAh battery, SD625 and 3.5mm jack

Today at IFA Lenovo has finally announced the Moto Z Play, the third member in the Moto Z family - of which the first two have been outed back in June. Unlike the Moto Z and Moto Z Force, the Moto Z Play comes with mid-range specs, but like its high-end siblings it is compatible with MotoMods accessories. Its design is very similar to that of the Z and Z Force, except for the fact that the Z Play's back isn't made out of metal. Instead, glass is used, so beware of fingerprints. The two glass panels on the front and the back are attached to a metal frame however. And the water-repellent...

ASUS updates ZenFone 2 to Marshmallow

ASUS has finally released the Marshmallow build for the ZenFone 2. The update was announced back in February and was supposed to arrive by Q2, yet here we are in Q3 with the update just being issued. Google pushed out a whole new version of Android in that time. The Marshmallow update brings all the new features you associate with it, but as with the ZenFone Zoom and ZenFone Selfie updates, it also removes a lot of the pre-installed apps that came with the previous version. The recommended thing to do is to do a factory reset on the phone after updating so all the older apps are...

Say, something straight from the horse's mouth? Well, Samsung has you covered in that case. The Korean company has so far outed quite a few videos detailing every aspect of the Gear S3. The first one is the "official launch film". This is the sort of promo video you expect to see with every such launch, quickly showing you the...

Seeing double: TCL 598 has four cameras, four!

Whether the LG V20 has two dual-cameras or not, the TCL 598 definitely does as shown in its TENAA listing. The phone has 4 cameras - four, quattro, vier, четыре. The main camera on the back is a dual-camera - 13MP + 13MP. On the front is a dual selfie camera, 8MP + 5MP. Unfortunately, there's no mention how they function. Wide-angle like the LG G5? B&W like the Huawei P9? Depth effects like the HTC One M8? We do know the main camera records 1080p video though. The other specs and they are pretty high up there. The TCL 598 has a 5.5" IPS LCD screen...

Garmin has launched the new VIRB Ultra 30, a $500 4K action camera that competes squarely against the GoPro Hero4. The VIRB Ultra 30 has a few interesting features up its sleeve. It is voice controlled, so you can say "Okay Garmin, start recording" and the camera will record without you having to press a single button, convenient when the camera is mounted in a way that makes it difficult to access. It also has a high sensitivity microphone that works well through the waterproof case. The 3-axis electronic image stabilization helps stabilize your shaky footage. The VIRB Ultra 30...

Don't miss it - the streaming should start here at 6PM CEST.

Samsung reportedly stops distribution of Galaxy Note7 units in Korea

On August 19, the Samsung Galaxy Note7 launched in its home country of South Korea and has sold 400,000 units since then. But now Samsung has stopped deliveries to the country's three major carriers - SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus. A Samsung official only said that the company is checking if deliveries have indeed stopped. One theory states that this is related to several incidents of a Note7 exploding during charging - 5 people have made this claim over the last week. Photos have been posted on Internet forums, though obviously a more serious investigation into the matter is needed...

The new S-Pen can get stuck in the Galaxy Note7, Samsung responds

Another year, another Note, another S-Pen issue. Samsung made sure this year the Galaxy Note7 users can't insert the S-Pen backwards, and yet a new flaw seems to be plaguing some styluses. As it turns out, the mechanical button on the S-Pen, which ejects the stylus from the silo, may stop clicking. And no clicking means no S-Pen ejection from within the Note. You can still get it out with a pin, or some hitting on the S-pen's hole, but once you start having problems with it, you may have to resort to doing this quite often. There are already a few videos on YouTube showing the issue and...

Geekbench 4 now available on PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android

Popular synthetic CPU benchmarking tool Geekbench has been updated to version 4. The new version comes with multiple changes and is available across all major platforms. One of the major changes in Geekbench 4 is the removal of separate tests for mobile and desktop platforms. The updated benchmark includes new workloads, such as executing SQLite queries, processing LLVM file, and rendering PDF documents....

While we already know that ZTE will unveil an audio-centric phone at this year's IFA conference in Berlin, the device might feature a dual-speaker setup like the big Axon 7. While roaming the IFA 2016 grounds as part of the press days we stumbled upon this huge poster hanging from the ceiling, which clearly showed the Axon 7 and Axon 7 mini, confirming that the petite flagship will be the centerpiece of the event...

The whole thing works entirely on your phone, so it's accessible offline without Wi-Fi or data connection. While the feature will be available on most current Android phones, on the LG V20 it...

Nexus Sailfish rendered in 3D, have a look

There's a rule that says photos of Big Foot and unreleased phones must be dark and blurry. Good thing that people with skills create beautiful 3D renders based on those photos (and sometimes design sketches). That's what TechConfigurations did with the Nexus Sailfish... well, maybe not "Nexus." Anyway, the video zooms around the phone, showing relevant specs as it goes. While those specs (and the design itself) are unofficial, you can think of this video as a speculative trailer for the Sailfish. By the way, check out TechConfiguration's YouTube channel - it's chock full of...

"We're committed to the Pixel program but we don't have plans to restock the Pixel 2," a spokesperson for the Mountain View, California-based company said. There have been indications that Google is working on a new Chromebook...

Phone number and email predictions are back with SwiftKey's latest update

If you recall, smart keyboard and prediction tech company SwiftKey had disabled cloud sync service as well as phone number and email predictions from its app following complaints about an issue that caused "unfamiliar terms" as well as other users' email addresses to show up as text predictions. While the cloud sync service was re-enabled in an update earlier this month, predictions remained disabled. However, that's changing now as the company has pushed out a new update that brings back predictions. Here's what the change-log says about predictions: "Number, email and other...

Here's what we think of the Honor 8 [Video]

Our full written review of the Honor 8 is on its way, so if you are excited about the Honor 8, you should watch our video review in the meantime. TLDR: I really enjoyed using this little phone. Battery life is quite good and the 5.2 inch screen size stands out among the many smartphones out there with 5.5-inch displays. There are only a couple of shortcomings that don't entirely justify the $400 (or Euro) retail price. Still, The Honor 8 is a wonderful device to use, it's snappy and its Kirin 950 silicon runs much cooler than the Snapdragon 820. EMUI is not the most pleasant Android...

Galaxy S8 to have dual rear camera, 8 MP selfie snapper and iris scanner

Now that the Galaxy Note7 is official, the rumors are starting to focus on Samsung's next flagship - yes, the Galaxy S8 that should only be announced next year. The fact that we're still many months away from that event isn't stopping Chinese leakers from allegedly outing details about the S8 already. Case in point - today's report that says the device will sport a dual rear camera arrangement. One of the units will have 12 MP resolution, while the other will be 13 MP. The company will once again source cameras from both its own division making them, but also Sony. The Samsung model for...

Google's Marlin and Sailfish will not have Nexus or HTC branding

If a new report allegedly coming from "several people familiar with Google's plans" is to be believed, then the Nexus program is dead. The Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X from last year have been the last Nexus-branded smartphones ever. The highly anticipated (and much-leaked) two handsets built by HTC that we thought would be 2016's Nexuses will instead have different branding, the same unnamed sources go on to claim. This isn't detailed any further, so it could just be that they will be called Google phones or something like that. Furthermore, the Marlin and Sailfish won't have HTC's...

We've seen the upcoming mid-range member of the Z line in many pictures already, and its specs are pretty much an open secret at this point. What we haven't known up to this moment is whether Verizon will sell the Moto Z Play like it does its two siblings, the Z and Z Force. Well, the answer is yes, it will. And of course it will apply Droid branding to it just like it did for the other two Z handsets. The Moto Z Play Droid has been the star of a quick photo shoot...

Moto M shows up at TENAA with 5.5" screen, metal body, rear fingerprint scanner

Mere hours ago we reported on a rumor claiming that Lenovo is working on a new Moto-branded handset that will have a rear fingerprint scanner. And now exactly such a device has been spotted at TENAA, the Chinese agency akin to the US FCC. However, the Moto M has been claimed to sport the model number XT1663 (and in fact this phone has been caught in a benchmark database too a while back). The smartphone seen at TENAA (and pictured below for your viewing pleasure) is the XT1662. So this may be another handset entirely, perhaps the Moto M Plus. Or maybe this is the Moto M. Then again,...

Euro Commission may levy on Apple €13 billion tax retroactively

Following its investigation over Ireland's questionable tax breaks for Apple back in 2014, the European Commission has found out the company to be guilty of receiving "illegal aid". As a result, Apple has to give back the €13 billion it saved over the 2003-2014 period. The investigation concluded that Apple paid an effective corporate tax rate of 1% on its profits in Europe in 2003, whereas in 2014 the rate was as low as 0.005%. However, Ireland's official corporate tax rate is 12.5%. EU tax officials have found that whenever someone buys an Apple product in Europe, the Middle East,...
