Gionee S11 pops-up on TENAA with a 6-inch, 18:9 FullVision AMOLED display

Gionee is definitely keeping busy lately. Only a few days ago the company unveiled the M7 and M7 Power and a recent TENAA filing suggest a third budget-oriented 18:9 device is on the way as well. Well, now we can bump the count with at least one more handset - the Gionee S11, which recently showed up on the Chinese certification authority's website as well. It seems Gionee has really taken the ultra-wide aspect ration trend to heart, since the S11 is listed as using a 6.01-inch, 1080 x 2160 pixel AMOLED panel. Likely the very same FullVision one used in the M7. You definitely won't...

ZeroLemon's new 5500mAh battery case is a snug fit for the Samsung Galaxy Note8

One of the biggest concerns both fans and critics express regarding Samsung's Galaxy Note8 crown jewel is battery life. While in our in-depth review, we found that the Exynos-powered handset handles its 3,300 mAh worth of juice surprisingly well, the Snapdragon 835 variant could still benefit from a little bit of a boost. Also, having even an extra bit more battery is always a good thing. If you don't mind paying for the convenience in pocket weight, battery packs are a solid offer and ZeroLemon stands out as one of the leaders in the field. The company just unveiled its 5500 mAh...

Alleged Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 renders show dual camera setup and a near bezel-less design

Last week, Xiaomi reinforced its Redmi value lineup with yet another strong offer - the Redmi Note 5a. But as appealing as the 720p, Snapdragon 435 device is, considering its €89 starting price, what fans are truly waiting on is its bigger brother - the Redmi Note 5. Besides one a bit more substantial leak, there really hasn't been much info on the next member of XIaomi's legendary value branch. A new set of renders has recently popped-up online that claim the major way the Chinese manufacturer plans to add another bit of value to the Redmi mix is through a dual camera...

Another leaked screen protector hints at massive bezels on the upcoming Pixel 2

As we draw nearer to Google's October 4 unveiling event, Pixel 2 leaks are spreading like wildfire. Hopes of a more modern exterior for the regular Pixel 2 are dwindling fast. All signs clearly...

Analysts: Essential sold only 5,000 phones

The Essential phone drew much attention from geeks the moment it was announced. There's a singular reason for that - it's made by a startup founded by Andy Rubin, often called the father of Android. And not just any startup, a $1.2 billion startup. So, how many phones has Essential sold since sales went live on September 9? BayStreet Research estimates that number is 5,000. Google Pixel 2 specs leak

According to rumored info, the Pixel 2 will have an embedded SIM card so you switch carriers without having to switch SIM cards. Yes, that's the same setup as the new Apple Watch. But check out the carrier support for the watch. We're sure the new Pixels will work great with Google Fi, but that's of little comfort for Europeans. At any rate, this info could be wrong or there still might be an old-school SIM slot. Moving on, both the Pixel 2 and Pixel...

HMD Global announces the Nokia 3310 3G

Nokia 3310 (2017) was a massive hit after its announcement in the beginning of 2017. The joy was cut somewhat short after HMD told everyone the phone does not support 3G networks. This meant fans in the US and other countries that are in the process of disabling 2G to wouldn't get the phone. This is about to change now, though. The Finnish company just unveiled the Nokia 3310 3G with new colors, new user interface and, as the name suggests, a 3G radio. Asus Zenfone 4 family hands-on

Why bother fighting the sharks for attention at IFA when you can hold your own private event and have the spotlights all to yourself? That was Asus' line of thought, apparently, which brought us to Rome last week for the European launch of the Zenfone 4. Or rather, the Zenfone 4s. Yes, because there are quite a lot of them.

WSJ: the TrueDepth camera on the iPhone X is causing the supply issues

We've been hearing that the iPhone X will face component shortages since the new flagship was merely a rumor. Now The Wall Street Journal quotes multiple sources who say that the TrueDepth camera is what keeps production slow. Two components - nicknamed Romeo and Juliet - work in tandem to enable the FaceID / animoji magic. However, the Romeo modules are harder to manufacture and take more time compared to the Juliet module. The sources did not name the function of Romeo, but it appears that this component is the true roadblock (and not the AMOLED screen as speculated...

Another Huawei Mate 10? A different design for the Leica dual cam on the back

At this point, there have been fewer Elvis sightings than Huawei Mate 10 leaks. Here's yet another model - we think it's not the Pro or the Lite, it could be the Plus model but who can even tell at this point. The main thing to notice in these photos is the label next to the camera. It says "ASPH", an aspheric lens, which indicates this is a Leica cam. But note the other part - it has an f/2.2 aperture, much slower than the rumored f/1.6 aperture that the new models are supposed to have. The aspheric lens points to a Leica camera on this Huawei device Renders suggest that the...

Sony exec: next-gen Xperias to have bezel-less design

Managing Director of Sony India, Kenichiro Hibi, has stated that Sony is planning to launch next-gen Xperia phones and "you can expect a completely new design from the devices". In other words, OmniBalance that has been employed since 2013 with the Xperia Z may be coming to an end. Hibi knows the direction that the market is heading - 18:9 phones with bezel-less designs. And Sony may join this design trend with a new device "soon". The company has neglected the low-end and even its mid-rangers have premium ambitions. With that in mind, Sony can't afford to keep an old school design when...

KGI: iPhone 8 sales are not weak, people are just waiting for the iPhone X

The slipping shipping dates should have been a clue - the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are selling as well as expected, claim industry analysts at KGI. According to their numbers, the two 8 models saw roughly half the sales during the opening week compared to last year's iPhone 7. But KGI's Ming-Chi Kuo (usually an authoritative source) expects that the iPhone X will match the sales of the 8 and 8 Plus combined. This will bring sale numbers back to where they need to be. Earlier, KGI predicted 50+ million pre-orders for the X, so it's a matter of how fast Apple can make them. Keep in mind that...

One in four iDevices already runs iOS 11

Apple's latest iOS 11 was released on September 19 and over 25% of the iUsers switched in the first week. The numbers came from analytics platform Mixpanel. The adoption rate is slower than iOS 10 last year, which reached 37% in six days. Adoption of iOS 11 stood at 12% 24 hours after its release and it's gaining 2-3% per day throughout the first seven days, eventually reaching 26.57%. Today numbers are actually lower at 23.6% due to numerous complaints about bugs. Apple answered woes with releasing an update we told you about earlier today. It is worth noting that Mixpanel is...

Was the Nokia 6 Arte Black canceled?

Nokia 6, Nokia 6, where Arte thou? Seriously though, what happened to the Arte Black version, which promised 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage in addition to the exclusive piano black finish? We snooped around Nokia's western sites and this model was nowhere to be found. On third party stores, we did spot a few 64GB non-Arte models, but those are gray imports from China. We only found it on the Romanian site, with no obvious way to buy it. We tried various Romanian online stores, but none of them had it (aside from a few more gray imports). So, has the Nokia 6 Arte Black been...

Huawei Mate 10 Pro renders show the bezel-less front, the Leica dual cam on the back

The Huawei Mate 10 Pro leaks are back, with a more revealing photoshoot this time. What seem to be screencaps from a promo video show the front and the back of the upcoming flagship. On the front, you can see the 5.9" EntireView display - free from bezels and with an 18:9 aspect ratio (likely an AMOLED to boot). That's a good look for the Mate series. Huawei Mate 10 Pro: the EntireView display • the Leica dual cam On the back, things look interesting as well. The resolution is a bit low, but you can see three circles: the top two make up the new Leica dual cam (rumored to have...

The memory will be 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage. Huawei is yet to launch a new...

Apple releases iOS 11.0.1 update for the iPhone and iPad

Just a week after release, iOS 11 is getting a minor point update in the form of iOS 11.0.1. The update is about 280MB in size and is now available to all compatible iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models. Being a point update, this will only really include bug fixes, security patches and minor performance improvements to the initial release, based on the feedback. Apple's update log also pretty much says the same, with no additional information on what exactly has been fixed or improved. If you are running iOS 11 or had not updated until now, this would be a good time to update.

ZTE sends out press invites, a new nubia phone coming in mid-October

With a new nubia device bouncing around the rumor mill, there was bound to be an event soon. And here it is - a press invite was sent out for an October 12 unveiling. Just what will be unveiled the invite does not say - it merely shows a glowing rectangle of light. If this is a bezel-less device, then the NX589J linked above is not it. That one very much has bezels. Press invite for a ZTE nubia event But there was another device too, NX595J, which was slated to have a larger screen and smaller bezels (though this particular leak is rather iffy). Whatever the model number, an...
