Nearly a couple of weeks after it started rolling out in the US, Brazil, and Canada, the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Moto X 2013 is now seeding in 14 more countries. These countries include Australia, Hong Kong, India, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Belgium, Italy, Netherlands, and Spain. Asus tipped to announce a budget-friendly smartphone soon
Asus will soon announce a new, budget-friendly ZenFone series smartphone, according to the latest rumor out of the company's home country of Taiwan. Dubbed ZenFone Go ZC500TG, the device will be powered by a MediaTek SoC with quad-core processor, and sport a 5-inch HD display. It will come with 2GB RAM and 8GB internal storage. In terms of camera, the handset will feature an 8MP rear unit and a 2MP front shooter. The rumor also says that the ZenFone Go will just offer 3G connectivity with no 4G LTE support, and could be announced before the end of this month. Verizon Galaxy Note Edge gets Android Lollipop update
The Verizon variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, which was released back in January this year with Android 4.4.4 KitKat on-board, has started getting the the Lollipop update. Carrying a version number of N915VVRU2BOF2, the update brings Android 5.0 to the handset. It includes the usual Lollipop features, such as Material Design, improved notifications, and several other changes. Apple iPhone 6s duo to come with LTE Cat.6 modem
A new leaked picture of the next generation iPhone 6s motherboard suggest Apple will be using a new Qualcomm modem, which will allow for LTE Cat.6 connectivity and will reduce the energy consumption. Qualcomm MDM9635M is the chip visible on the board. It is manufactured on a new 20nm process, which reduces the chip size, energy consumption and heat signature. The new modem is also known as 9X35 Gobi and supports LTE Cat.6 connectivity. The latter translates into theoretical 300Mbps download and 50Mpbs upload speeds. The smaller modem may give Apple some extra space, which can be used either for the rumored Force Touch display or perhaps a bigger battery. Alleged Xiaomi Mi 5 specs leaked; said to release in November
The Xiaomi Mi 5 has already been the subject of several rumours and leaks, but now we have one more to add to the list. The latest one provides specifications as well as the release time-frame of the device. As per the report, the handset will be powered by the yet-to-be-released Snapdragon 820 SoC, and sport a 5.3-inch display with a 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution. It will come with 4GB RAM and 16/64GB expandable internal memory options, and will pack in a 3,030mAh battery. In terms of camera, the smartphone will feature a 16MP rear unit and a 6MP front shooter. It will come with a fingerprint scanner, and run Android 5.1.1 out-of-the-box. Just a day after it started hitting the Verizon variant, the Android 5.1 Lollipop update has also started rolling out to the AT&T and US Cellular variants of the Moto X (2014). As usual, the news was announced by David Schuster, senior director for software product management at Motorola Mobility. He said that full deployment has begun for the USC variant, while the AT&T variant is open for pull. If you are not already aware, full deployment means that you'll get an OTA notification on your device, while open for pull means that you'll have to fetch the update by heading to the settings menu on your handset. Xiaomi expands beyond Asia, starts selling phones in Brazil
More than six months after announcing that it will soon start manufacturing phones in Brazil, Xiaomi has walked the talk. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has entered into an agreement with contract manufacturer Foxconn, which runs a manufacturing facility outside of Sao Paulo. "We offer high-quality products at incredibly aggressive prices, so we're starting with larger developing markets where people are very price-sensitive," said Xiaomi's global vice-president, Hugo Barra. He also announced that the company's entry-level Redmi 2 smartphone will be released in Brazil next week, carrying a $160 price tag.
