Redmi unveiled the Note 17 and Note 17 Pro in China earlier this month, and now it looks like the Note 17 headed to India has just run Geekbench. As usual, this means there's a listing for it in the Geekbench online database, and that it reveals the chipset at the helm. It's the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 SoC, same as in the Chinese Note 17. This is aided by 8GB of RAM in the specific unit that ran the benchmark. The phone runs Android 16. As you can see in the screenshot below, it managed a 950 single-core score and a 2,324 multi-core score in Geekbench 6.7.1. According to a recent rumor,...

Or, to put it another way, an iPhone-like gigantic rectangular camera island that stretches...

Weekly poll results: things are looking grim for the Nothing Phone (4b)
Things are looking grim for the Nothing Phone (4b) – to have a fighting chance, the phone needs a price cut and it needs it now. The results from last week’s poll show this quite clearly. Even if the phone gets good reviews – and that’s a big “if” given its specs – few people would be converted into fans. What went wrong? Well, in last week’s poll we compared the (4b) to the Nothing Phone (4a) – but one commenter says that we should have compared it to the older Nothing Phone (3a). Oof. There are many pain points – slow, non-expandable storage, relatively weak chipset, only 3 OS...

Android lockscreen bypass allows Gemini to send SMS without verification
These things happen from time to time, especially when dealing with such complex software with so many edge cases and even more so with software with special privileges like Gemini’s ability to run from the lock screen. In traditional “hacking” circles, this is known as an authentication bypass vulnerability or a lockscreen bypass. It is always so fascinating to observe what things people find or often stumble upon. You can see the short video for yourself. Still, it goes something like this: The user has mindfully disabled access from Gemini to certain apps like Messages, so naturally,...
Google Pixel 11a specs leak
A fairly reputable leakster has dropped some alleged specs for Google's new "a-series" device, and if true, it might just be the best one to come out in years. There is at least one big surprise in there that we frankly didn't expect – the chipset. When Google dropped the Pixel 10a in March 2026, one of the biggest complaints most prospective buyers had was the chipset. Google decided to stick with last year's Tensor G4 chipset, which is just one of the aspects that made the 10a a bit too similar to the Pixel 9a. Well, if these new rumors are true, the Pixel 11a might actually come packing...

Samsung is adding yet another preinstalled app to Galaxy phones, but there's a silver lining
Companies can’t help themselves and do things that might have sounded nice in the boardroom but are met with groans from actual consumers. We suspect this will be one of those things – Samsung US just announced that select Galaxy phones and tablets will come with the Amazon Music app pre-installed. To be fair, the bloatware comes with a perk – you get a free 3-month subscription. This gives you access to all the songs and podcasts on the service as well as one free audiobook from Audible per month. The Amazon Music Unlimited subscription is $13 a month and you can only get a 1-month...
Google rebrands NotebookLM as Gemini Notebook
Google's NotebookLM started off as a small Google Labs experiment back in 2023, but it has grown tremendously since then, reaching more than 30 million people and over 600,000 organizations. Thus, the company has realized that the product has basically outgrown its name. So, today, Google is announcing that it is renaming NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook.
