Huawei Honor 7 variants rumored to differ in design
The Huawei Honor 7 - which has already been the subject of several leaks - will come in two variants differing in both design and specifications, according to the latest report out of China. As per the report, the low-end version will sport round corners and a metal frame, while the high-end version will have an all metal body. On the specifications front, the former is said to come with 3GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, while the latter will have 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. The report also notes that both variants will be powered by the latest Kirin chipset (possibly Kirin 940), which is said to come with eight cores: four Cortex A-53 cores, two Cortex A-72 cores, and two Cortex A-57 cores. The devices will sport a 5.2-inch 1080p display, 16MP OIS camera, pack in a 3280mAh battery, and feature fingerprint recognition technology. Sony considering manufacturing smartphones in India
Sony might soon start manufacturing smartphones in India. Sony India Managing Director Kenichiro Hibi said the company is "very seriously" considering starting a manufacturing facility in India. The move comes to comply with India's recent 'Make in India' initiative, started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, that encourages businesses to manufacture goods in India rather than importing them. Since then, several companies have shown interest in starting manufacturing facilities in India, including Foxconn. Samsung already manufactures the Tizen-based Z1 in India, and it seems Sony may be joining them soon. Samsung Z1 sales cross 1 million mark; gold variant coming soon
Samsung has sold over a million units of its Tizen-powered Z1 smartphone till now, a milestone that the company achieved in less than six months of the device's launch, which happened back in January this year. "It has been better than expectations for us," said Asim Warsi, vice president for marketing, mobile and IT at Samsung India. "It stacks up equal and better with some of its neighbouring models in our portfolio." The South Korean company is now planning to launch a gold colour variant of the sub-$100 device next month, as well as more affordable smartphones (in $125-$235 range) running its home-grown mobile operating system. Warsi also revealed that the Tizen Store now has double the number of apps that were there in January, adding that more apps will be added after the Tizen Development Summit, which is scheduled for July 30-31 in India. Another week went by and it's time to take a quick look back at the most exciting news stories the mobile realm had to offer. The past few days lacked any major device announcements, but rumors and speculations about upcoming handsets filled the void nicely. The alleged third installment of Motorola's popular affordable Moto G line made an appearance with a few live photos and even a video. The leak captivated mobile fans and was the most-popular scoop of the week. From what we have seen, the new Moto G (2015) shows great promise and could be even more-successful than its two predecessors, if the price remains right. The Top 10 trending phones of week 26
Another week, another top ten chart summing up your interest in the devices in our database. Certain trends have started emerging, but it still never ceases to surprise us how huge a difference major news events, sales and launch promotions can make to the chart, often in unforeseeable ways. The past week wasn't really that eventful in terms of new device announcements, but the rumor mill has been overflowing with intriguing stories, which have naturally stirred-up things in the popularity list as well. Starting at the top of the list, we once again find the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime. The device has long been present on the list, but only recently did it manage to dethrone the long standing champion - Galaxy S6. Actually, this is now the third week in a row and with a difference of over 28000 hits between the top two spots, the budget phone takes home yet another victory. While Samsung's flagship still sits at the runner-up position, followed by the Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML. At number four, we find a rather peculiar new entry in the face of the Xiaomi Mi 4. The year old handset has not only managed to appear on the chart out of nowhere, but has also shot straight to the reputable fourth position, just edging out the iPhone 6. This is quite an achievement and could perhaps be attributed to a recent price drop for the Mi 4 in India. Going further down the list, we find the aforementioned iPhone 6, sitting where we left it last week. The Samsung Galaxy A5 and Galaxy S6 have switched places - sitting at sixth and eight position, respectively. Right between them, at seventh place, we find yet another odd new entry - the Lenovo K3 Note. Also, not a frequent visitor on the chart, the phone has managed to pull off quite a performance to get all the way to number seven. But, again, we believe there is a logical explanation for this sudden spike in interest - namely the phone's recent launch in India with a sub $200 price tag. The bottom of the chart once again holds some interesting and affordable devices. This week these are the Galaxy E7 and Galaxy J1.
