Top 10 trending phones of week 39

Fro the third week in a row the 17 Pro Max is on top of our trending chart, except it's a different phone altogether. Xiaomi stole Apple's thunder with its new flagship lineup even though it's yet to debut outside China. The newly unveiled Xiaomi 17 Pro Max ended up the most popular device in our database this week, followed by its 17 Pro sibling. The globally announced 15T Pro made it an all-Xiaomi podium. [#InlinePriceWidget, 14178, 1#] That probably doesn't bode too well for what Apple hopes to be its next iconic model, but it's not too far behind in third. The 17 Pro was...

Weekly poll: which one do you want, the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro or 17 Pro Max?

Xiaomi unleashed the new 17-series of flagships this week (and the 15T duo, but we’ll save that for another week). This year there are three models – a vanilla Xiaomi 17 that takes over from the Xiaomi 15, a Xiaomi 17 Pro that has the same 6.3” size but offers more premium features (better tele camera, secondary screen) and the large model that is now called the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. The Xiaomi 17 starts at the same price that the Xiaomi 15 cost last year. This is no longer the best 6.3” Xiaomi flagship, though – that would be the Pro, which is around 10% more expensive. Finally, the Xiaomi...

Redmi Pad 2 Pro hands-on

Xiaomi hosted a big event this week where we saw the debut of several new devices, including the Redmi Pad 2 Pro. We got to test out the Pad 2 Pro with the Matte Glass screen, and these are our first impressions. For a €380 tablet, the Redmi Pad 2 Pro Matte Glass Version looks and feels like a more expensive device. It brings an aluminum unibody, which is cool to the touch, and at 610 grams, it has some heft to it, but not in a bad way. It actually feels lighter than what you’d expect from a tablet of this size, and it's fairly slim too at 7.5mm. The 12.1-inch IPS LCD features a...

Sony makes phones like no other company on the market, but Sony fans are one of a kind too – they came out in force in last week’s poll and showed strong support for the Sony Xperia 10 VII. The perfectly rectangular display, the 3.5mm headphone jack and the microSD slot are must-haves for some and they also happen to be things you can’t get anywhere else. Not in this segment, anyway. There were some concerns about the price. Still, the vote went 5:1 in favor of “I want one” vs. “no, not at this price”. The...

iPhone 17 aces durability test

Apple is currently going through “scratchgate” with its iPhone 17 Pro series but how does the regular iPhone 17 fare? Well, much better thanks to its back glass, which is etched in a soft-touch material. With no sharp anodized aluminum edges on the camera island, the iPhone 17 is much less susceptible to scratches. iPhone 17's back exposed to aluminum, titanium and copper The scratch test included close encounters with...

Check out some iPhone Air photo samples, we've got selfies too

It's quite obvious that the new iPhone Air's key selling point isn't the camera, but that doesn't mean it can get away with mediocre image quality. The only camera on the back uses a familiar 48MP, 1/1.56" sensor coupled with an f/1.6 aperture. Apple promises lossless, optical-like zoom quality at 2x to compensate for the absence of a dedicated zoom camera. We'll reserve the judgment on how well that works until the review is complete and we've done a detailed analysis across all our test scenes, but for now here are some 1x and 2x shots. iPhone Air: 1x • 2x The...

The 17 Pro was once again the least popular member of the new lineup, but still managed to retain its fourth position. Samsung's Galaxy S25 Ultra gained a couple of spots to place fifth,...

The chipset gets an upgrade, though, from last year's Dimensity 9300+ to 9400+ now. Memory configurations still span from...

Weekly poll: would you buy the Sony Xperia 10 VII?

Sony’s latest Xperia mid-ranger launched on Friday – the Sony Xperia 10 VII brings significant changes to the design while maintaining that Sony feel, plus it features several important hardware upgrades. It’s also a 120Hz panel (finally!), though we found a lot of issues with this particular implementation. Sony Xperia 10 VII The new aspect ratio makes the phone a...

Weekly poll results: the iPhone 17 challenges the 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max is the most popular

Last week, we asked you which (if any) of the new iPhones you would buy. With a number of significant upgrades and staying at the same price as last year, many will flock to this model - including people that in previous years would have gone with a Pro. The point of this was to assuage people's fears that Xiaomi copied the camera island design from Apple - he's basically saying you can see how different they are. But, if you ignore Xiaomi's screen occupying the island, we can't really see that much of a difference. Xiaomi says the design was inspired by the Mi 11 Ultra from 2021,...
