Weekly poll results: Sony Xperia 1 VII has stalwart supporters but the high price will deter most

The Sony Xperia 1 VII will not help Sony grow out of its niche market position – last week’s poll makes it pretty clear that £1,400/€1,500 is too much for a non-folding flagship, especially one with only 12GB of RAM and 256GB storage. The Mark 7 offers a unique combination of features, but as one commenter points out, many of them aren’t exactly expensive – the microSD card slot and the 3.5mm headphone jack don’t add much to the production cost. The same goes for the flat display without a notch or punch hole. To be clear, while some people really value those features, they don’t justify a...

Apple now rumored to be developing haptic buttons for iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches

Apple has been rumored quite a few times to be developing haptic buttons for iPhones, but obviously they haven't yet launched. Now, a new rumor claims that not only has Apple restarted the haptic button project for future iPhones, but the company has allegedly expanded its reach to also include iPads and Apple Watches. So it pretty much seems like Apple is now going all-in with haptic buttons, for better or worse. Obviously, it thinks their advantages are worth it. These solid-state "buttons" which technically aren't actual buttons reduce mechanical wear (to zero, since they don't move at...

Redmi Pad 2 pricing leaks through retailer listings

Earlier this month we caught our first glimpse of the upcoming Redmi Pad 2, the successor to the original Redmi Pad from 2022 - this one has definitely been a (very) long time coming. Today its pricing has been outed through a number of retailer listings in Europe. These show that the Redmi Pad 2 will go for €199 with 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and Wi-Fi connectivity. That's the base model. Redmi Pad 2 European retailer listings If you want 4G access too, it looks like you'll need to pay €299, but that version also gets you 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, both of which...

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 'confirmed' to be Exynos-powered in the US

The never-ending story of which chipset Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Flip7 will use where continues. We've heard it would be going with the Exynos 2500 across the world, then we heard that Samsung's own chip would only be used in its home market of Korea, and now we're back to Exynos everywhere - more or less. According to a new report, firmware files for the Galaxy Z Flip7 show it being powered by the Exynos 2500 in the US. This is significant because when Samsung does regional SoC differences, North America always gets the Snapdragon - always. But, apparently - not this time...

Oppo Find N5 Flip design possibly outed by patent filing

Oppo's last flip-style foldable was the Find N3 Flip, launched in 2023. Since then, nothing - it's been crickets only on this front, even though the company did come out with the book-style Find N5 already. Now, the design of what could be the upcoming Find N5 Flip may have been uncovered in a patent filing at the WIPO. This filing basically shows the entire design for a flip-style foldable, and it's not one that Oppo's used so far. That said, it is immediately identifiable as a member of Oppo's Flip line, with the cover screen to one side and the cameras arranged next to it. It has...

vivo X200 Ultra Photography kit in action

vivo X200 Ultra Photography kit hands-on review Few things go hand in hand better with an Ultra, than a Photography kit. Xiaomi has been putting these out for several generations of its ultimate flagship, while vivo had a third-party option for the X100 Ultra last year. For the X200 Ultra, they're making an official one, and it's one-upping Xiaomi. The vivo X200 Ultra Photography kit is made by PGYTech, a well-known company in the camera accessory field. The set includes a protective snap-on case that also serves as a mount for the other bits, a battery grip, several rings with...

Google Pixel 10 series will keep this important connectivity feature despite modem swap

Google's upcoming Pixel 10 family will be using the Tensor G5 chipset, manufactured by TSMC, and since it's switching from Samsung's foundry, it will also switch modems. No more Exynos, the Pixel 10 devices are due to get the MediaTek T900. You may have been wondering whether the new modem would affect the next-gen Pixels' ability to connect to satellites, and the answer seems to be no, based on a new teardown of the Adaptive Connectivity Services app. Code in this app does reference Pixel 10 handsets (identified by previously matched codenames) having Satellite SOS capabilities, so...

New mystery Redmi phone surfaces at the FCC

Earlier this month a mystery Redmi phone stopped by the FCC on its way to launch with no 5G and a 6,000 mAh battery. Today, we have another one - still a Redmi, also a mystery. This device does have 5G support, however, along with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, and NFC. It will run Xiaomi's HyperOS 2.0 when it arrives, and will be offered in three RAM/storage combos: 6/128GB, 8/128GB, and 8/256GB. Mystery Redmi phone at the FCC These are all the details that we know about it so far, along with the model number 25062RN2DL. But even from those specs it's very easy to tell that this...

Oppo A5m retailer listing reveals its specs and price ahead of time

Oppo's A5 line is soon going to add another member - the A5m. Despite not having been made official yet, this has been prematurely listed by a Polish retailer, and the listing has outed some of the phone's specs, along with its pricing in Poland. Let's start with that - it will go for PLN 899, which right now translates into approximately $239 or €211. For that amount of cash, you're getting a 6.67-inch 720x1604 LCD screen with 90 Hz refresh rate, the Snapdragon 6s Gen 1 chipset, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, a 50 MP main camera with a 2 MP decorative sensor next to it, a 5 MP selfie...

WhatsApp is testing a simple Logout option

WhatsApp is constantly working on new features, which are generally seen in beta versions before being released. That's also the case today, when some enterprising folks dug through the latest WhatsApp beta for Android and found an upcoming Logout option in Account settings. Once it goes live, when you tap it you'll be presented with two options - one of those will have you log out while also erasing all of your data and preferences, while the other will keep your data and preferences. iPhone 17 Air's weight rumored along with silicon-carbon battery, interesting frame material

The iPhone 17 Air is coming this September to replace the iPhone 16 Plus, and today a new report gives us some more details about its weight. This is said to be 146g, although past reports have also claimed 145g and 150g. So it's probably safe to assume it will weigh between 145g and 150g. That means it will be lighter than Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge. Part of this is due to the fact that Apple won't be using a titanium frame like Samsung, instead going with the lighter 7000 series aluminum. This makes the frame weigh 25-30g. The OLED display comes in at 35g, the single 48 MP rear camera at...

Your Galaxy Z Flip7 might not have an Exynos chip after all

Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip7 is expected to launch in early July alongside the Galaxy Z Fold7, and we've recently heard that the Flip7 would be using Samsung's long-delayed Exynos 2500 chipset. Yesterday, a benchmark run of the US-bound model surfaced with the Exynos 2500 on board, and that seemed to settle things regarding regional availability - in short, it looked like the Exynos would be in worldwide. Today, however, a new report from Samsung's home of Korea claims otherwise. According to a local publication, the Exynos 2500 will only be used in the Flip7 in Korea, while every other region...

A merger between Samsung's LSI and Foundry divisions is getting increasingly likely

Samsung's chip-manufacturing business isn't doing great, and poor yield is partially to blame. Even the Galaxy S25 series switched entirely to Snapdragon this year. Though the Exynos will return to the S26 series if the rumors are correct. The issues with Samsung's LSI (the chip design arm) run so deep that reports suggest a merger between Samsung LSI and another division, most likely Foundry. The initial rumors suggest that Samsung is planning to merge Samsung MX (Mobile Experience) and LSI, but the latest development is pointing to a Foundry-LSI merger instead. A South Korean news...

Motorola launches the Edge 2025 in North America with a new AI Key

This is also promised to deliver "13% more resolution than the previous generation", without its actual resolution being revealed. The phone is powered by MediaTek's Dimensity 7400 SoC, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It sports a 50 MP main camera with omni-directional all-pixel autofocus using Sony's Lytia LYT-700C sensor. There's also a 50 MP ultrawide with built-in Macro Vision for...

Users are reporting bootlooping after the latest Samsung Galaxy A56 update

According to some Samsung Community posts, the latest software update for the Galaxy A56 is causing some bootloop issues. The update itself isn't big and brings some minor improvements to the software experience, with the most notable one being the ability to launch Gemini by a long press of the power button. In any case, after installing the update, some users are reporting bootloops, essentially bricking their phones. The bad news is that Samsung has yet to acknowledge the issue, but the good news is that the workaround is very easy. You just have to power off the phone, remove the...

Apple is preparing to launch several new smart home products

In the last few years, Apple has been trying to penetrate markets outside its traditional ones, including the automotive industry. Now, according to the latest report from Mark Gurman, Apple is eyeing the smart home market as well. In the past, Apple dipped its toe with the HomePod and HomePod mini, but it wasn't the success the company hoped for. It looks like Apple is taking a second shot at this with several new smart home products that will likely be released by the end of 2025 and in early 2026. One of them is an iPad-like device with a robotic arm. This sounds like a...

Galaxy Z Flip7's Exynos 2500 chipset gets benchmarked, here are the results

Samsung is now rumored to be using the delayed Exynos 2500 chipset for the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip7 smartphone. And a benchmark run of a prototype, bearing the model number SM-F766U, has been spotted in the Geekbench database. That's interesting since that model number belongs to the version headed to the US, so it seems very likely that the Flip7 will use the Exynos 2500 all over the world. The benchmark gives us an idea of what to expect, performance-wise, from the SoC that was meant to be in the Galaxy S25 family but ended up being replaced with the Snapdragon 8 Elite due to yield...

Google is already working on the Pixel 10, a series of leaks revealed over the weekend. The Pixel 10 Pro (or Pixel 10 Pro XL) was spotted on a public beach in Vancouver, Canada, where it was filmed for a TV ad. The video crew wasn't working hard on keeping the phone a mystery, and the person who stumbled upon the set even got a glance at the storyboard (a visual script of all scenes that make up the video clip). Google will launch the Pixel 10 with a new camera feature that will allow users to add multiple people to the same shot. 🎬 Just out for a walk…stumbled onto a full-on commercial...

Key features that both phones share Realme GT 7 will run on Dimensity 9400e, which is a premium chipset just a notch below the flagship Dimensity 9400. It will come with a 6.78" OLED screen with an outstanding 6,000...

Nothing CMF Buds 2 Plus review

The CMF Buds 2 Plus are the premium model among the trio of new earbuds from Nothing. Part of the entry-level CMF range, these are all meant to be relatively affordable, with the most expensive Buds 2 Plus coming in at $69. And if that's not low enough, they cost just $39 (INR 3,299) in India. Compared to the Buds 2 and the Buds 2a, the Buds 2 Plus try to provide an elevated experience with improvements to the audio and ANC side of things. There is a 12mm LCP driver along with LDAC Hi-Res Audio and a claimed 50dB noise cancellation. The rest of the specifications are mostly similar...

Top 10 trending phones of week 21

Much like last week it is newly announced phones that dominate our trending chart. The champion is Xiaomi's new 15S Pro, powered by the company's own Xring O1 chipset as second place went to the Infinix GT 30 Pro - a mid-range offering that aims to set a new value-for-money benchmark. In third we have last week's champion - the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, followed by its sibling and long-time favorite Galaxy A56. [#InlinePriceWidget, 13506, 1#] Another new face is fifth - the Honor 400 Pro mostly made headlines by pioneering the Image to Video feature, but it has a lot more going...

Weekly poll: would you buy the Sony Xperia 1 VII?

Sony doesn’t make many phones these days, but the models it does release are like nothing else on the market. With the Sony Xperia 1 VII the company has fixed some of the issues that fans complain about, but many still remain. Sony Xperia 1 VII The Mark 7 promises 4 OS updates. After that, you won’t have the latest Android, but you will have a secure phone with patches for two more years. That’s much better than the Mark 6, which only got 3 OS updates and one extra year of security patches. That longevity is important because the Xperia 1 VII costs a whopping £1,400/€1,500 in...

Samsung Galaxy Buds Core battery capacity leaks

Samsung is reportedly looking to replace its entry-level TWS buds this year. The new device is called the Galaxy Buds Core and replaces the Buds FE that came out in 2023. The latter launched with an MSRP of $100, which might be an indication of Buds Core's pricing. The new Buds Core recently showed up on a bunch of Samsung support websites so we now know their model number will be SM-R410. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 allegedly spotted in the wild

As a quick refresher, Samsung is expected to launch a total of three foldables in early July: the Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7 and Z Flip7 FE. Reportedly, mass production of the devices is well underway, so it comes as no surprise that product spy shots are starting to surface online. Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 will be powered by the familiar Exynos W1000 chip

The Galaxy Watch8 series is right around the corner. As far as we currently know, it will drop in early July alongside the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7. We already know quite a bit about the Watch8, and the latest industry chatter claims that Samsung will reuse its own Exynos W1000 chip from last year. The Exynos W1000 is still a top dog in the smartwatch realm. It is effectively one of the fastest, if not the fastest, watch chip with its penta-core CPU setup, consisting of four ARM Cortex-A55 cores, clocked at up to 1.5 GHz and a Cortex-A78, working at up to 1.6 GHz. A Mali-G68 MP2 GPU and...

Deals: Galaxy S24 FE and A56 get a free watch, Poco X7 and F7 prices fall

Samsung is running a “Sweet Summertime Upgrade” promotion, meaning that several Galaxy models are paired with a free Galaxy Watch7. The two we picked are the S24 FE and A56. The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is £100 off at the moment and seeing how the 256GB variant is only £60 more than the 128GB one, that’s the one we’d recommend – storage is non-expandable and 128GB is pretty tight. The phone’s Exynos 2400e is pretty zippy and the 50+8+12MP camera setup includes a 75mm 3x telephoto camera. The battery situation is typical for Samsung with 5,000mAh capacity and 25W wired charging, but at...

Fairphone 4 is not getting Android 14 after all

Fairphone, the sustainable Dutch smartphone brand, was supposed to bring Android 14 to its nearly four-year-old Fairphone 4, but that is not happening. A company representative confirmed the news via a post on the Fairphone forum. Fairphone planned to ship the Android 14 update to users by the start of 2025, but the software team ran into unexpected issues, including factors outside of their control. Instead of continuing its uphill battle, Fairphone is now shifting its focus and resources to deliver Android 15 for the Fairphone 4. The company is not ready to share a detailed launch...

The Galaxy Buds Core have already been certified for sale in India by BIS. Interestingly, the first Samsung launch event where these could be presented is in early July, when the company is expected to unveil the Galaxy...

Report: Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7 and Z Flip7 FE demo units will ship to stores soon

Samsung is expected to launch three foldables in early July: the Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7 and Z Flip7 FE. A few weeks ago we heard that Samsung had started mass production and things appear to be progressing on schedule as Max Jambor reports that the company is preparing to ship demo units to stores. As with the previous report, it’s these three classic foldables, the rumored tri-fold model is nowhere to be seen. That might join in later, similar to how the Galaxy S25 Edge trailed the main trio. The Galaxy Z Flip7 FE apparently weighs 187g, according to the shipping manifest. That’s the...

Oppo Reno14 series is going international with Gemini access to built-in apps

Oppo has basically just indirectly confirmed that the Reno14 series, announced for the Chinese market earlier this month, is getting an international release (which isn't always a given with the Reno family seeing as how there's a new launch in China every six months or so). While this is just our speculation, we base it on a new press release from Oppo that boasts about its collaboration with Google's Gemini AI for the Reno14 series. And Google apps aren't available in China, hence our assumption. Oppo says that on the Reno14 devices, Gemini will soon integrate with Oppo's own...

CMF Buds 2 and Buds 2 Plus in for review

Nothing recently launched three new pairs of wireless earbuds under its budget-friendly CMF brand, and we have two of them in-house today. We got the two ends of the trio here, the top of the line Buds 2 Plus and the cheapest Buds 2. This leaves the middle Buds 2a model, which hopefully we get to look at at some point in the future. Starting with the base model, the new CMF Buds 2 comes with a custom 11mm PMI (polymethacrylimide) driver. The sound is tuned by the Swedish brand Dirac, which has worked on other products with Nothing in the past. You also get 6 microphones (three on...

Google previews Android 16’s desktop mode

Android’s long-awaited native desktop mode is finally coming to Android 16, and Google gave a sneak preview during its I/O 2025 developer keynote. It was co-developed alongside Samsung – a logical move given Samsung’s experience with DeX, which first launched on the Galaxy S8 series back in 2017. We got a glimpse of the upcoming desktop interface at the 20:55 mark in the video below. Android’s native desktop mode looks similar to Chrome OS with a row of apps pinned in a taskbar on the bottom. We can see some of Google’s first-party apps like Gmail, Chrome, YouTube, and Google Photos...

Samsung Galaxy S26 to have a surprise in the camera department

Samsung's Galaxy S26 family is expected to launch in January, with or without a Plus member. Today a new rumor tells us about a surprise that Samsung is preparing for the series. Namely, the base S26 will have a new sensor for the main camera. It will still have 50 MP resolution, but the Samsung ISOCELL GN3 sensor that's in the Galaxy S25 and has been used since the Galaxy S23 will finally be replaced, if this rumor pans out. Samsung Galaxy S25 It's unclear what exact sensor will feature instead of it, but it is also one in the ISOCELL GN family, so it's most likely one that hasn't...

Here's what the Xiaomi 16 looks like

The Xiaomi 16 is expected to be unveiled in late September, right after Qualcomm announces the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 SoC that will be powering it. Ahead of that, today we have an alleged CAD-based sketch of the device to look at, showing us its design. As you can see, it's a refinement of the Xiaomi 15's design, with the squircle camera island placed at the top left of the rear. It will interestingly be a two-tone design, which we can get a better idea of by looking at the render below, created based on the sketch above. So, overall, nothing really that's out of the ordinary, it...

Amazon to be working on a foldable-screen laptop of its own

Yesterday, Huawei unveiled the MateBook Fold Ultimate, which is a laptop with a folding screen. When unfolded, you get 18" of real estate, whereas when folded it has the same footprint as a 13" laptop. Today, Amazon is rumored to be working on a very similar device of its own. The information comes from Ming-Chi Kuo, a goldmine of supply chain information who usually focuses on Apple. Speaking of which, it's not coincidental that he's talking about this form factor, as Apple itself has been rumored to be working on a similar device too. Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate Apple's laptop...

Realme will launch the GT 7 and GT 7T next week (Tuesday, May 27) with an event in Paris. But let’s turn our attention to the 7T model as some key specs have leaked thanks to a photo of the phone’s box. The Realme GT 7T (model number RMX5085) will be powered by the Dimensity 8400 Max chipset.
