Xiaomi CC11 photos also appear on TENA
The Xiaomi CC11 smartphone has been listed on TENAA with its full specs, but the listing was missing the usual accompanying photos. Now the images are up, and the design looks familiar. The Xiaomi CC11 has a square camera island similar to several Mi 11 series phones. The CC brand is exclusively Chinese, but we may see the same device in global markets under a different name, just like the Mi Note 10 was based on the CC9 Pro. Xiaomi CC11/Note 11 The image quality isn't great but we can see there's no periscope lens on board. We can also see all keys on the right side and a...
Samsung Galaxy A13 5G is in the works, to launch later this year for under €200
Samsung introduced the Galaxy A12 last year with the Helio P35 SoC, and Dutch publication GalaxyClub reports the company has now begun working on its successor - Galaxy A13 5G. As evident from the name, the Galaxy A13 5G will support next-gen connectivity, unlike its predecessor which is limited to LTE networks. Samsung Galaxy A12 The source doesn't reveal any specs of the Galaxy A13 5G but says the smartphone will have model code SM-A136B, and it could be priced under €200 as the Galaxy A12 is currently. This will make the upcoming phone the cheapest 5G phone in the Korean...
Allstate deems Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G the most durable foldable
Samsung highlighted the improved durability of its foldable smartphones when it announced them earlier this month. Improvements include added water-resistance, a reinforced metal frame, stronger hinge, and a more durable folding display surface. American provider of protection plans Allstate posted its findings to YouTube in a short subtitled video. The first drop test shown was the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G while its internal display was open. This test was performed from six feet high and dropped directly on its internal display. It did see noticeable scuffing on the corners of the...
Samsung Galaxy S21 FE user manual reveals lack of microSD card slot, no charger in box
Samsung's Galaxy S21 FE has long been rumored to have been delayed because of the ongoing chip crisis, but it will hopefully launch at some point in the next few weeks. Before that happens, more and more details about it are starting to surface, and today its user manual is the star of the show. This unfortunately reveals that the S21 FE will not have a microSD card slot. This was rumored a while back, but then in July the Chinese TENAA certification refuted that claim by noting that the slot was in fact present. Now with the user manual saying it's not there, we're a bit confused,...
Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro to become available on October 28, new rumor says
Google has already pre-announced (or semi-announced?) its upcoming Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro flagship smartphone duo, promising all of the details (as well as an actual release) for "later this fall". Just when would that be, though? Well, earlier a rumor started spreading like wildfire saying that Google would announce the duo on September 13, the week of Apple's big iPhone launch. That seemed like a pretty bad idea on Google's part, and now a new rumor comes to refute that report... sort of. See, while the September 13 date was meant to be for the announcement, the new info says the...
Windows 11 to release on October 5 as a free update
Microsoft today announced that it will be releasing Windows 11 on October 5. The update will be provided for free to eligible PCs. The update will roll-out gradually from October 5. Microsoft says new eligible devices will get the update first. After that, the update will then roll-out over time to in-market devices based on intelligence models that consider hardware eligibility, reliability metrics, age of device, and other factors that impact the upgrade experience. Microsoft says it expects all eligible devices will be offered the update by mid-2022. Those running Windows 10...
Samsung starts rolling out One UI 3.1.1 update for its older foldables, here's what's new
All of Samsung’s older foldables are ready to join their 2021 counterparts in running One UI 3.1.1. The update for the Galaxy Z Fold2 5G, Z Flip 5G and the original Z Flip starts rolling out today. The original Galaxy Fold will get its update about a week later. What’s new in 3.1.1? Samsung worked to figure out new ways to use the large screen of the foldables. Note that some of these features are available only on select models. Drag & Split is an alternative to tabs – you can drag a link or item from select apps to the side of the screen and open a new window side by side. The list of...
One UI 4 beta (based on Android 12) will start testing on the Galaxy S21 series in September
Samsung announced the One UI 4 beta program at the end of July and it is almost ready to open up the software to public testing. A community manager in the Samsung forums posted that the beta testing will start “in September”. Unfortunately, the company hasn’t committed to a specific date and the beta will be available in South Korea first (but it should expand to other regions soon after). If you want to join, you will need to tap the ‘Join One UI Beta Program’ banner in the Samsung Members app. One UI 4 beta is coming to the Galaxy S21 series in September • Machine...

Realme GT Neo2 gets TENAA certified, might launch as GT Neo Gaming in some markets
The Realme GT Neo2 that surfaced yesterday with its images and specs has been certified by TENAA, moving it a step closer to the launch and corroborating yesterday's leak. The GT Neo2, sporting model code RMX3370, is powered by the Snapdragon 870 and runs Android 11, presumably with Realme UI 2.0 on top. It's built around a 6.62" FullHD+ AMOLED screen with a fingerprint reader underneath. While TENAA doesn't mention its refresh rate, a previous leak claimed the smartphone will feature a 120Hz panel. The display also has a 16MP selfie camera inside the punch hole, and around the back is...
Honor overtakes Apple and Xiaomi to become third largest maker in China in July
CINNO Research has posted its analysis of the smartphone market in China, and the numbers show one big winner - Honor. The newly independent company climbed to third place in its domestic market with 4 million smartphone sales in July, surpassing Xiaomi (3.9 million) and Apple (3 million). Oppo retained the lead with 5.6 million units sold, while vivo moved 5.3 million phone. However, the month was relatively unimpressive on a yearly basis. The Asian country saw only 26 new models get launched, a 38.1% decrease, and of those only 11 were 5G enabled. Chinese companies will launch...
Leak: the Nokia G50 5G will be powered by the Snapdragon 480, have a 6.38" 720p+ display
The yet to be announced Nokia G50 5G can’t keep itself out of the news – official images along with some details about the phone have been dug up by WinFuture. This next-gen connectivity will come courtesy of the Snapdragon 480, Qualcomm’s first 5G-capable entry-level chip. This is also the chip inside Nokia’s X10 and X20 phones. The Nokia G50 will reportedly be bundled with a TWS headset in some...

The CC11 series is expected to arrive with two models – vanilla and Pro – and should be available globally under the Note 11 (last year’s CC9 was exported as the Note 10 series). We’ve been hearing rumors about the devices, now TENAA has supplied some additional details about the vanilla phone. The Xiaomi CC11 features a 6.55” AMOLED display with 1,080 x 2,400 px resolution (that is 20:9). According to previous rumors, it will have a 90 Hz refresh rate. Unfortunately, there are no images attached to the listing yet, so we can’t tell if the display is curved or flat. The phone measures...

Meizu 18s, 18s Pro appear on TENAA with specs, pictures
Two Meizu smartphones were just certified by TENAA and the listing reveal most of their specs and design. They are likely the 18s and 18s Pro flagships since they share a lot of similarities with the Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro. The main difference is the Snapdragon 888+ chipset, powering these phones. The Meizu M182Q or the Meizu 18s has a 6.2” AMOLED screen with 1440p resolution. There are three cameras on the back with 64MP, 16MP and 8MP sensors. Samsung once again became the first company to roll out the newest Android security patch for its smartphones before the beginning of a new month as it released the September 2021 Android security patch for the Galaxy S20 FE yesterday. The update comes with firmware version G781BXXU4CUH5 and requires a download of about 790MB. It doesn't bring any new features to the S20 FE 5G, although the changelog claims to improve the stability of the device. The new firmware is...

OnePlus Nord 2 gets gaming optimizations, OnePlus 7 series gets Bitmoji in new updates
While none of these is anything even close to Android 12, OnePlus is currently busy sending out new software updates to the Nord 2, 7, 7 Pro, 7T, and 7T Pro. Let's start with the newest of those phones. The update for the Nord 2 is labeled OxygenOS 11.3.A.10, and it seems to already be rolling out according to some user reports. It's a 245MB download when you get it. OnePlus Nord 2 It comes with battery optimizations for PUBG and other gaming titles, which should hopefully put an end to the unusually high battery drain some people saw when gaming. Additionally, a face unlocking bug...

The Honor 50 series was unveiled in mid-June and went on sale ten days later. The vanilla Honor 50 and the 50 Pro were available in four colors at launch, but now there is a fifth option – the limited edition “Honor Code” colorway. It features the letters of “HONOR” scrambled randomly on the back. The colors of the background and of the letters shift depending on the angle of the light reflecting off them. Of course, there’s a matching wallpaper pre-loaded. Honor Code colorway: Honor 50 and Honor 50 Pro The limited edition units cost the same as the standard ones,...
Red Magic 6S Pro teasers hint at graphene cooling, no changes to the design
Heat dissipation has become a hot topic for high-end smartphones, especially the ones running top of the line chipsets like the Snapdragon 888+, which will power the upcoming Red Magic 6S Pro. The gaming brand has been posting teasers about the advanced cooling solution it has devised for the new phone. One of the teasers boasts about some space-grade technology, a graphene cooling sheet if we’re reading the machine translation right. This will be coupled with the active cooling fan, which has become a staple for the series. Red Magic 6S Pro teasers: graphene sheet • fan with...

vivo X70 Pro photographed in the wild with a 5x periscope and ZEISS T* lenses
vivo officially unveiled the design for the X70 Pro+ before the September 9 announcement of the new flagship series. The Pro model was not featured in the published images and videos, but someone has a unit on hand and posted a photo. Here’s the first look at the vivo X70 Pro. It matches the 3D renders from a few days ago, so you can check those out for more angles. The vanilla model and the X70 Pro lack the so-called “cloud window” to the side of the camera, which turned out to be a decorative element. You can tell this is the Pro and not the vanilla vivo X70 because of the periscope...
Harmony OS reaches 70 million users, stable update now available for nearly 100 devices
Huawei introduced its own mobile OS to the world under the name Harmony OS. Back in June, the company CEO promised 100 models will get the stable variant, and according to Chinese media, this milestone is right around the corner. Today, the company celebrated 70 million devices switching to Harmony OS, and reports also claimed “nearly” 100 models are eligible for the update. Users have been able to migrate to HarmonyOS since April, but the first major batch was pushed on June 2. The 70 million mark was reached in just under three months, and that’s primarily Huawei and Honor devices...
Realme GT Neo2 renders and specs surface: Snapdragon 870 chip, 6.62" 120Hz display

The Realme GT Neo2 will have a flat 6.62” AMOLED display, the largest in the GT family yet. It will have 120 Hz refresh rate and 1080p+ resolution. This phone will probably launch with Android 11 and Realme UI 2.0 out of the box. Realme GT Neo2 (unofficial renders) The software will run on a Snapdragon...

The Realme Pad will come in Grey and Gold, with a 10.4-inch 1080x2400px 60Hz IPS LCD, an 8MP front-facing camera and 8MP camera on the opposite side. There will be a 7,100mAh battery, 64GB of storage, possibly expandable, and even a stylus, housed in the body of the...
Honor X20 Max reportedly coming with a 7.2” screen
The Honor X20 series already have two members - the affordable X20 SE and the X20 5G with an Oreo-shaped camera island on the back. Reports from China now reveal a third variant is on its way - it will have a humongous 7.2” screen, a 6,000 mAh battery and will keep the circle on the back. The Honor X20 Max would be a natural successor of the Honor X10 Max, launched in the summer of 2020. It came with a 7.1” screen, meaning the new device will have the biggest screen on an Honor smartphone ever. The new device is said to have a Dimensity 1100 chipset. The bigger question here is...
Lenovo K13 quietly launches in Russia: a cheap Moto E7i Power rebrand with Android 10 Go
The Lenovo K13 quietly launched in Russia – it is a basic Android 10 Go edition smartphone that doesn’t share much DNA with the Lenovo K13 Note. Instead, it is a rebrand of the Motorola Moto E7i Power. The K13 features a 6.52” IPS display with 720p+ resolution (20:9), which sounds very similar to the K13 Note display (you didn’t expect the “Note” to be bigger, did you?). There’s no word on a hardened glass above it, but the phone has a plastic body with an IP52 rating (dust and splash resistant). The phone is powered by a UNISOC SC9863A chipset, a 28 nm part with eight Cortex-A55...
Newer PlayStation 5 consoles come with a smaller, lighter heatsink
Sony has quietly switched the launch PlayStation 5 console with a revised model that features some notable changes. The biggest of these changes is that the heatsink is now considerably smaller than the previous one. The change was first noted by YouTuber Austin Evans, who ordered this particular model from Japan, where the revised model is now starting to show up in stores, along with Australia, and some parts of the US. In his teardown, Evans noted several minor changes, including a new screw for the stand that is designed to be easy to turn with just your fingers, and some...
Leakster: the Xiaomi 12 will have a triple 50MP camera with a 5x periscope
Xiaomi got a lot of use out of various 108 MP sensors in the last three years, including featuring one on the Mi 11 and Mix 4. However, the ultra wide and telephoto modules continued to use fairly low resolution sensors, often in the 8-13 MP range. For the Xiaomi 12 generation (remember, no more ‘Mi’), the company will use a triple 50 MP setup, according to leakster Digital Chat Station. This means 50MP main, 50MP ultrawide and 50MP telephoto cameras. This last one will allegedly use a 5x periscope. Xiaomi is said to have a working 10x periscope, but that focal length is impractical –...

Kuo: iPhone 13 series to feature low earth orbit satellite communication connectivity
Noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is back with another investor note and it brings an unusual rumor to this year’s upcoming iPhone lineup. The new iPhones will reportedly feature low earth orbit (LEO) satellite communication connectivity via custom Qualcomm X60 modems which will allow them to make calls, send texts and get internet service in areas without cellular coverage. Dummy units: iPhone 13 Pro Max, 13 Pro, vanilla 13 and 13 mini Kuo further explains that network operators will have to work with satellite communications providers like Globalstar to direct iPhones to their LEO...

Samsung is expected to bring the Galaxy A52s 5G smartphone to India on September 3. The device, already available in Continental Europe and the United Kingdom, was expected to be 10-15% cheaper in the South Asian country, and we now have a confirmation. Amazon India has listed the device with 6GB RAM and 128 gigs of storage for INR35,999, which is about $485/€415/£355. Just for comparison, British consumers have to pay £419, while Europeans must shed €449 for the same memory combo. The Galaxy A52s 5G is a pretty promising smartphone - 64MP quad camera with OIS on the main shooter, a...

Vivo X70 series to arrive on September 9, Pro+ will have a Zeiss T* camera lens
The vivo X70 series will come with a custom-made ISP, and today we know when exactly that will happen. The company confirmed September 9 as a launch date and posted images of the vivo X70 Pro+ smartphone, revealing its camera setup and some details. The flagship smartphone will have a Zeiss T* camera - that’s the very same branding we have seen on the back of the Sony Xperia 1 smartphones. Zeiss is a German optics company and T* is its special type of lens coating, eliminating the glare from stray light. The images also reveal a camera island with four shooters in an L-formation,...
Top 10 trending phones of week 34
Week 34 didn't see as many new announcements as the previous two, leading to relative stability in our trending chart. Long-term leader Redmi Note 10 Pro returned to the top as the Redmi 10 and former number 1 Mix 4 complete an all-Xiaomi podium. Poco X3 Pro rose all the way to fourth position with Samsung Galaxy A52s and Galaxy S21 Ultra taking the next two spots. Redmi Note 10 in seventh and Poco F3 in ninth make it six Xiaomi-made smartphones in the top 10, while Google's Pixel 5a 5G in eight is the only smartphone not coming from the top two smartphone manufacturers...
Lypertek Pureplay Z7 review
The Pureplay Z7 is the latest pair of wireless earbuds from the Chinese manufacturer Lypertek. The company came into the limelight after the launch of its excellent Tevi model, which has since then been replaced with the largely identical Pureplay Z3. I reviewed the Tevi and also the newer Levi models last year and found them to be some of the best wireless earbuds in their price range. Compared to most other brands in their price range, the Lypertek products had more focus on audio quality over superficial features and to this day remain two of my favorite wireless products that I've...
Samsung Galaxy Buds2 review
Samsung introduced the Galaxy Buds2 earphones earlier this month, along with the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 smartphones. We received a pair of the new earbuds, and we are now ready with our review, so pour yourself a Sunday drink and enjoy the read. The new earphones borrowed the Active Noise Cancellation from the Galaxy Buds Pro, but stayed humble on speaker sizes, so that’s why they are positioned as a successor of the Buds+ rather than an evolution of the Pro. The new earbuds arrive in a square case, just like the Buds Pro and Buds Live. Samsung announced them as its...
Week 34 in review: Xiaomi drops Mi branding, iPhone 13 coming on September 17
Another week is in the books, so let's recap. Huawei could be prepping a special edition Mate 50 smartphone with a dual ultra-curved display with touch-sensitive sides. Huawei's Mate Pro line has waterfall screen sides and the Mate 30 Pro didn't even have a volume rocker back in 2019, so this Arc design is not entirely new for the maker. We'll see what comes of it. Xiaomi stopped Redmi Note 10 production, citing issues related to chip shortages. The company suggested customers purchase other devices from the same lineup, like the Redmi Note 10 Pro (convenient), Redmi Note 10S and Redmi...
Motorola Edge 20 in for review
The Motorola Edge 20 series arrived a month ago, and we finally got our hands on a member of the family. The vanilla Edge 20 is now with us and we’ll go over its highlights before handing it over to the review team. Pulling out the phone from the box, we can feel how unusually thin it is. Other manufacturers have ditched the idea of having uber light devices lately, but the Edge 20 measures just 7mm for the most part, making it super easy to handle. The camera setup adds 3mm more, meaning the phone is very wobbly when laid on a flat surface, though. The camera setup on the back...

Weekly poll: the Redmi 10 has many upgrades, but will it have many buyers?
The Redmi 10 is now available online and can be shipped to various countries. There’s also a Redmi 10 Prime coming to India on September 3 and we strongly suspect that’s just the local name of the Redmi 10. Alright, who wants one? Before you answer, a bit of introduction is in order. This is the most advanced “plain” Redmi so far. It is the first in the series to have a high refresh rate screen, a 6.5” 1080p+ LCD panel running at 90Hz. Though given the price range, the 1080p+ part is perhaps more impressive than the 90Hz part – we’ve been seeing a lot of 720p+ phones recently, for example...
Weekly poll results: the Pixel 5a 5G intrigues, a price cut can turn it into a hit
Last week’s poll shows that Google may have underestimated the appeal of the Pixel 5a 5G. As far as we know, this model will only be available in the US and Japan. That pales even in comparison with the upcoming Pixel 6 duo that will launch in eight markets. The poll results are split three ways with nearly equal percentage points. The top option (by a slim margin) is that people are interested in buying a unit, if one is available near them. But that’s easier said than done – with the multitude of 5G bands used around the world, launching in more countries will probably require a new...
Flashback video: the Nokia N97 tried to kill the iPhone, sped up Nokia's demise instead
After Apple released the original iPhone to great acclaim, the biggest mobile phone maker of the day, Nokia, vowed to beat it at its own game. At first it tried to undercut the price with the ambitious but imperfect Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, its first touch-driven Symbian S60 smartphone. That didn’t work out – the 5800 had its flaws, but it did help software developers and users familiarize with the new software stack and interface. Symbian S60 5th edition was a brand new touch UI unrelated to previous efforts like S80 or UIQ. With the worst issues ironed out, the stage was set for...
